16 Handles Introduce
16 handles piscataway photos
Welcome to a delightful guide to one of New Jersey's most popular dessert spots, 16 Handles, located conveniently in Piscataway. Nestled on the vibrant Livingston campus of Rutgers University, this establishment has become a go-to destination for locals, students, and families alike seeking a customizable and delicious treat. Unlike a traditional ice cream shop, 16 Handles offers a unique, self-serve experience that puts you in complete control of your frozen yogurt creation. This article will provide an in-depth look at what makes this place special, from its creative concept to its community-focused atmosphere, helping you decide why it’s the perfect spot for your next sweet craving.
The concept behind 16 Handles is simple yet brilliant: you are the master of your own dessert. The name itself alludes to the sixteen different "handles" or soft-serve dispensers, each offering a unique flavor of frozen yogurt. This innovative approach allows patrons to mix and match flavors, creating endless combinations. The experience is both fun and interactive, encouraging creativity as you craft your perfect cup. The shop's commitment to variety doesn't stop at the yogurt; the toppings bar is a feast for the eyes, filled with everything from fresh fruits and nuts to candies, chocolates, and sauces. This personalized touch ensures that every visit is a new adventure, and you can always find something to satisfy your specific taste preferences. The clean and modern interior, coupled with friendly service, makes for a welcoming environment that's perfect for a quick snack or a leisurely hangout with friends and family.
Located at 105 Joyce Kilmer Ave, Piscataway, NJ 08854, 16 Handles is situated right in the heart of the bustling Rutgers University Livingston campus. This prime location makes it a central hub for students and faculty, and a great stop for anyone visiting the area. The accessibility of the shop, however, is a key point for locals to consider. As the location is on a busy campus street, parking can be a bit tricky, especially during the school year or when a major campus event is taking place. Public parking lots are available, but they may require payment. Some customers have noted that during big campus games or events, parking can be significantly more expensive, with some reporting charges as high as $50. It’s always a good idea to check for local event schedules if you plan to visit on a weekday evening to avoid potential parking issues. However, during off-seasons like the summer, parking on the street may be more readily available and free, making for a much smoother visit. The location is easily reachable by car from surrounding areas and is also on a main bus route for those who prefer public transportation.
The shop itself is designed for convenience and comfort. There is ample seating both inside and outside, allowing you to enjoy your treat in any weather. The indoor space is well-lit and often not overly crowded, especially during off-peak hours. The outdoor seating is a great option for enjoying a sunny day while watching the campus life go by. The overall atmosphere is very "chill" and welcoming, with a vibe that encourages you to relax and enjoy your dessert. While the service is largely self-serve, the staff is known to be friendly and helpful, always ready to assist with any questions or provide a pleasant checkout experience. One customer even noted receiving a lovely discount and tipped the generous staff member, highlighting the positive and kind interactions that often occur here. The combination of a great product and a positive customer service experience is what makes 16 Handles a beloved local establishment.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This is a cool spot for frozen yogurt. It’s a unique concept, where they have self serve / soft serve yogurt dispensers (handles!) with multiple creative flavors, then you add any toppings you want. Unlike most dessert shops that charge one fee, 16 Handles charges by weight, so the more frozen yogurt and toppings you choose, the more you pay. The flavor and topping selections are great, and there’s something for everyone. Just be advised it’s not exactly cheap. We ordered for three and it was over $30. I guess my kids really loaded up on the toppings! But it’s a fun concept, great stuff, and right in the middle of Rutgers’ campus. They did have some seating inside and outside. We visited after college let out for the summer, so there were no lines or crowds, and free parking was available on the street. I’m not sure if that’s an issue during that school year. I definitely recommend checking this out if you’re up for some self serve / soft serve frozen yogurt!
June 12 · Mike McIt is located on a busy campus street so there’s no public parking, instead there’s parking lots. Which may require some payment. Do be careful coming here on a weekday night, there may be some sort of campus game going on nearby & they’ll charge $50 for parking!!! Other than that, this place is chill, service was nice & friendly, don’t mind them sitting, since it’s pretty much a self serve service until paying. There’s a few flavors of frozen yogurt, and some simple soft serve. And plenty of topics. Delicious & enjoyable.I wanted to note, my siblings & I were given a lovely discount & I tipped the generous lady for the discount.
March 20 · Lily LeI love this place; I've been coming for years! Sadly, I just had an unsatisfactory experience. I said hello to the cashier upon check-out and received no response. I also said thank you three times and received no response. I do not expect an entire conservation. I just expect a person to acknowledge when I am speaking to them. It's not the kind of service I want to spend my money on.
June 04 · Savannah Di'OnneA very nice place for Froyo. The woman who works there keeps the establishment spotless. Always says hi to us.The froyo is always delicious.Highly recommend their products.
July 22 · Cindy DawkinsHaven’t had 16 Handled in a long while so we sought out the closest location to us which was about 30 minutes. Well worth it! The yogurt and toppings are fresh and delicious, but the biggest takeaway is how absolutely PRISTINE and CLEAN the owner keeps the counter area. Toppings are neat and fresh. After every group of customers, the sections between each topping are cleaned with a small food brush. While I was here, fresh fruit was taken from the back kitchen and refilled a few times. I am highly impressed. Will surely be back!
