Brothers Creamery Frozen Custard Introduce
Welcome to Brothers Creamery Frozen Custard, a beloved local spot in Chicago's Lakeview East neighborhood that has been delighting residents with its rich and creamy frozen custard. This isn't just an ice cream shop; it’s a destination for a classic dessert experience that many locals have come to cherish. Founded by the Toader brothers, Marius and Peter, Brothers Creamery was born out of a desire to bring a taste of nostalgia and community to their neighborhood. The shop specializes in crafting a dense, velvety frozen custard that stands apart from ordinary ice cream, thanks to its specific churning process and the inclusion of egg yolks, which gives it a smoother, richer texture. Every batch is made fresh daily with high-quality, local ingredients, ensuring a consistently delicious experience that keeps people coming back for more.
The unique appeal of Brothers Creamery lies in its focus on a single, perfectly executed product: frozen custard. While some may prefer traditional ice cream, those who appreciate the denser, creamier texture and a richer flavor will find their ideal treat here. The menu is a testament to this focus, offering a variety of ways to enjoy the custard, from simple cups and cones to their signature concretes. The concept is straightforward, which allows the shop to be incredibly efficient, even during busy summer evenings. The Toader brothers, who also own The Crepe Shop next door, have a deep connection to the neighborhood and a passion for serving their community. This commitment is reflected in the friendly service and the care that goes into every single order.
Customers consistently praise the quality of the custard, often noting its creaminess and consistency. While some might find the space a bit small, especially on a busy weekend, the efficient service system ensures that the wait is manageable. The staff are known for being friendly and attentive, even when the lines are long, creating a positive experience for everyone. The shop has successfully created a system of taking orders, giving tickets, and calling out groups that keeps the flow moving, which is a significant plus for a popular neighborhood spot. This efficiency allows people to get their delicious treats quickly and enjoy them, whether they find a spot on the few benches available or take their dessert to go.
The menu's concretes, which blend the frozen custard with a variety of mix-ins, are a major highlight for many patrons. Favorites like the Biscoff concrete or the Wild Berry Cheesecake concrete are celebrated for their delicious flavor combinations and generous mix-ins. For those who want to get creative, the "create your own concrete" option is a huge draw, allowing for endless possibilities. This customization, combined with the excellent base of fresh vanilla custard, makes for a truly personalized and satisfying dessert. The shop's ability to cater to both those who want a classic treat and those who want to experiment is a key part of its appeal.
Despite the small size of the shop, it has a big impact on the community. It has quickly become a go-to spot for a sweet treat, providing a delightful option for locals in the Lakeview East area. While some customers note a preference for a more traditional "ice cream spot" if one were available, many agree that Brothers Creamery "does the trick" perfectly and offers a satisfying sweet fix. The appreciation for the staff's kindness and the quality of the product, particularly the concretes, indicates that Brothers Creamery has successfully filled a niche in the neighborhood's dessert scene. Its existence provides a valuable service to the community, offering a delicious, high-quality frozen treat that brings joy to many.
The focus on a single base flavor—vanilla—might seem limiting to some, but it allows the shop to perfect its core product and ensure that every concrete, sundae, or cone is built on a foundation of exceptional frozen custard. This dedication to craft over a sprawling menu of flavors is a refreshing approach that resonates with many who value quality over quantity. The fact that their custard is made fresh daily is a point of pride and a key differentiator. The overall experience, from the friendly staff to the well-executed system and the delicious desserts, solidifies Brothers Creamery Frozen Custard as a local favorite that is well worth a visit.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Mediocre experience. If you have an ice cream craving, I’d go elsewhere (i’m aware this is custard not ice cream). Custard isn’t the best but if you have a specific liking for it then sure. I ordered the oreo malt at first which was very soupy so I exchanged for an oreo fudge concrete which was better. The employees were nice with my issue which was appreciated.
June 15 · angelina cristianiGood custard, good service, but too small to service the neighborhood it’s in. This place was super busy on a summer weekend evening, and they had a pretty efficient system of taking orders, giving tickets, and calling groups. It was fast enough that the group of people waiting for orders didn’t overwhelm the seating and waiting area. The concrete was tasty, though nothing special, but there wasn’t much seating space outside. The single trashcan was overflowing. If there was a true local ice cream spot in the area, I’d choose that over this in a heartbeat, but it did the trick as a sweet treat!
June 27 · Maddy EichenbergCute place. However I did not think the custard was anything special. I thought the flavor was very mid. Would rather have something from shake shack or McDonald’s honestly.
April 13 · Clara Dfood: really good custard/concretes, had some unique flavors too, definitely want to go back but very heavy dessertservice: staff was nice and fastambiance: got to go
July 08 · David YeVery disappointed with the product today. Handed us the ice cream melted and in a second cup saying “sorry” while she gave it.Usually very good product but not today.I might come back.
