Tucked away in a unique location, this local business has garnered a reputation for its high-quality, creative, and indulgent desserts. This article is your ultimate guide to Cold Comfort Ice Cream, providing a clear and honest overview from a local’s perspective. We'll explore what makes this shop stand out, from its one-of-a-kind menu to its distinct atmosphere, all based on real customer feedback and publicly available information.
Cold Comfort is not your typical ice cream parlor. It operates with a specific and focused concept, primarily offering soft-serve ice cream and a selection of homemade ice cream novelties. This unique approach is what sets it apart from other dessert spots in the Ypsilanti area. According to one enthusiastic customer, this is "some of the best ice cream I've ever had," and they were particularly impressed by the "homemade novelties (think ice cream sandwiches and choco tacos, but way better)." This kind of feedback highlights the shop’s commitment to quality and creativity, turning childhood favorites into gourmet, handcrafted desserts.
Another reviewer shared their experience, noting that they ordered a "spuddy buddy" and found it to be "really really good." This comment not only confirms the deliciousness of the products but also helps to identify one of their popular menu items. This customer also provided some key details about the business model, stating that Cold Comfort "only" serves soft serve and pre-packaged novelties, with no traditional scoops. This is a crucial piece of information for first-time visitors who might be expecting a classic scoop shop. The reviewer also mentioned that the novelties, or "fancy ones," can be a bit expensive, with one costing them $8, but that the soft serve is more reasonably priced. This price transparency is valuable for locals planning their visit.
The unique location of Cold Comfort Ice Cream is also a major part of its identity. It is described as being "tucked in a side alley," creating a sense of discovery for those who seek it out. This off-the-beaten-path feel adds to the shop's charm and makes a visit feel like a special event. The business also provides a few chairs for seating and a garbage can, offering a small but thoughtful space for customers to enjoy their treats right there. This focus on the essentials—delicious ice cream and a simple, pleasant experience—is what resonates with its fan base. The overall consensus is that Cold Comfort is a must-visit spot for anyone in the area looking for an exceptional frozen treat.
What makes Cold Comfort so appealing is its dedication to crafting unique and high-quality items. The homemade novelties, which have been called "mind-blowing," are a clear highlight. This attention to detail and commitment to elevating classic desserts is what truly distinguishes this local gem. It's not just about selling ice cream; it's about providing a special, memorable experience with every bite. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Go here now. This is some of the best ice cream I’ve ever had. They offer soft serving with toppings and have about a half dozen homemade novelties (think ice cream sandwiches and choco tacos, but way better). Mind-blowing how good it was. We will be back!
April 19 · Adam SalomoneI ordered the spuddy buddy, it was really really good. They don't serve any scoops. The only thing is that it's very expensive (for the fancy ones), this cost me $8. And they're prepackaged. They're tucked in a side alley. There's a few chairs to sit on and they have a garbage can. The soft serve is $.3.50-$4.
June 24 · Marta BarronAbsolutely fantastic gourmet novelty ice cream treats! They take all the best treat concepts - Choco Tacos, S’mores, ice cream bars, etc., - improve on those concepts and produce the most delicious version you’ve ever had using high quality ingredients. They’ll blow you mind!
July 18 · Jef PorkinsThis ice cream is amazing! We first had it at Blom Mead in Ann Arbor and liked it so much we went to the walk up window in Ypsi the next day. The Spuddy Buddy is so good, holy cow. And we also tried their chocolate chip cookie sandwich. What I really liked about that one is they took the time to make a great cookie using brown butter. Just the cookie alone would have been awesome.
June 14 · Matt GreerAmazing novelty ice creams. Takes the nostalgic ice cream treats to the next level and worth the premium.Store is a walk up window. No seating nearby at the moment. We've tried all of the novelties so far and they're all delicious. The chocolate covering is thick and deliocus. Ice cream inside is super creamy.
