Dairy Bar Introduce
Located at the heart of the Indiana State Fairgrounds, the Dairy Bar is a long-standing tradition that has been serving the Indianapolis community since 1941. This iconic establishment is more than just a place to get a snack; it’s a cherished part of the fair experience, a place where generations of Hoosiers have gathered to enjoy delicious dairy products. Managed by the American Dairy Association Indiana (ADAI), the Dairy Bar is a testament to the state's rich agricultural heritage. While it’s primarily known for its classic ice cream treats and milkshakes, the Dairy Bar also offers a variety of savory items, including its famous grilled cheese sandwiches. The bustling atmosphere, friendly volunteers, and the sheer delight of enjoying a cold treat on a hot day at the fair make it a can't-miss destination. This article will provide a comprehensive look at the Dairy Bar, highlighting its location, menu, and the features that make it a local treasure, all based on publicly available information and customer feedback.
The experience at the Dairy Bar is a true reflection of the Indiana State Fair itself: a blend of tradition, community, and deliciousness. As one review enthusiastically states, the milkshakes are "delicious" and a "must for a hot day at the fair." This sentiment captures the core of what makes the Dairy Bar so popular. It’s a simple pleasure that provides a perfect respite from the fair’s hustle and bustle. Each year, the Dairy Bar introduces new and unique items alongside its beloved classics. For example, recent fairs have featured specialty grilled cheese sandwiches like the "Hot Honey Pepperoni Pull" and "Melty Mess," and signature milkshakes such as the "Blue Ribbon Blueberry." These new additions, which are often part of the annual "Taste of the Fair" contest, keep the menu fresh and exciting for returning fairgoers. While one detailed review from a former volunteer described a very negative experience regarding management and working conditions from six years ago, it's important to note that the positive and consistent public reviews about the food and the overall experience from customers continue to highlight the quality of the products and the friendly atmosphere. The Dairy Bar’s longevity and continued popularity suggest that it remains a cherished institution for fair visitors.
The menu at the Dairy Bar is a dairy lover's dream, offering a wide array of sweet and savory items. The star of the show is, of course, the ice cream. Visitors can enjoy classic soft-serve ice cream in a cone or a cup, or choose a traditional ice cream sundae with their favorite toppings. The milkshakes, which one reviewer called a "must," are a major highlight, with a variety of classic flavors available. The Dairy Bar also offers soda floats, providing another refreshing option for a hot summer day. But the menu isn't limited to treats; the grilled cheese sandwiches, a staple of the Dairy Bar, are legendary among fairgoers. The ADAI often introduces specialty grilled cheese sandwiches each year, which are highly anticipated. Other savory items, like corn dogs and even some more modern takes on classic foods, are also available, making the Dairy Bar a great stop for both a full meal and a dessert. The menu’s variety ensures that there is something for everyone to enjoy, from the youngest fairgoer to the most seasoned veteran.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 16 years ago this was staffed by possibly the worst humans in the world. The food is good, and don't get me wrong its a good fundraising opportunity for schools. You want to know why they let so many highschoolers volunteer to fundraise here? Because nobody else will work for these people. (at least 6 years ago.) The people every year i Worked there were mean. I messed up a single shake in my entire shift (and tried to remake it.) (never took a break for 7 hours) and was screamed at. I walked off and went to the amusement park for the rest of the day. not worth the 4 dollars an hour they offer to your students fundraiser.
