Dairy Queen (Treat) Introduce
The Dairy Queen (Treat) location at 501 16th St NE in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is a familiar name for many in the community. As a branch of the well-known Dairy Queen franchise, this store is intended to be a local spot for classic soft-serve ice cream, sundaes, shakes, and other frozen desserts. However, recent customer feedback suggests a significant disparity in the quality of the experience at this particular location compared to others. While the Dairy Queen brand is a staple for many in the Midwest, the specific operational practices and customer service at this store have become a point of discussion among local patrons. This article aims to provide a factual overview based on available public data to help community members make an informed decision about their visit.
Recent customer reviews paint a complex picture of the Dairy Queen (Treat) on 16th St NE. One review notes that the product quality is average, with an observation that larger servings contain a high percentage of "white ice cream" after the initial scoops, and that popular items like Buster Bars and Dilly Bars have significantly reduced in size while prices have increased. Another review expresses frustration with staff availability and service speed, mentioning that there are "always a line, slow service," and that employees often ask for high tips and are sometimes difficult to find. A third and highly critical review points to a number of operational inconsistencies and safety concerns. This customer states that the store's operating hours are unreliable, often opening late and closing early depending on weather and time of day. They also mention that the store frequently closes for state holidays or events. Other concerns raised in this review include parking difficulties due to college students and a negative environment with "homeless people children and immigrants ask for money while your in line." This review concludes with a recommendation to go to a "better one" on 1st Avenue. These accounts indicate a wide range of issues that may affect a customer's experience.
It is important to note that not all feedback is negative. One contrasting review praises the location, calling it the "Best DQ in town" and mentioning that the staff "get to know you if you stop a lot." This single positive review, however, is a direct contrast to the more detailed negative accounts, highlighting a significant inconsistency in customer experiences. The stark difference between the experiences suggests that patrons' satisfaction may depend heavily on the specific circumstances of their visit, such as the time of day, the specific staff member on shift, and the customer's personal history with the store. The Dairy Queen brand is strong, but the performance of this specific franchise location appears to be a point of contention among local users. While some find it to be a community hub, others are left feeling frustrated and disappointed. This division in opinion is a key aspect of understanding this local business.
The Dairy Queen (Treat) is located at 501 16th St NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402, USA. Its position on 16th Street NE places it in a notable area of Cedar Rapids, which is a major city in eastern Iowa. The location is situated in an area that some customers have described as a concern, with mentions of nearby bars and college-related activities. Accessibility to the store can also be a challenge, according to reviews. One patron noted that parking is often difficult to find because "college kids up the street partying aren’t using it." This suggests that while the store is physically present and accessible by car, practical challenges like parking availability may make a visit more difficult than expected, especially during peak hours or specific days of the week. Its location near a college campus and other establishments may contribute to the unique challenges and environment described by customers.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 11) is average, but if you buy bigger 90% white ice cream after first two scoops. Cheap on the inside few things on top. All the buster bars and dilly bars halved in size. The prices higher then other local stores.2) same people always there, usually have to stand around until someone wakes up sleeping in back. Has card fees, always a line, slow service, and asks for high tips.3)in the ghetto, homeless people children and immigrants ask for money while your in line. Bars all over, drunks stumbling around.Things to know~ is it windy or rainy, this place is only open if the sun is out.Is it hot or cold, sun up or down. Expect it to open 2 hours late and close 2 hours early to the schedule if it’s not over 70 and sunnyIs there a holiday game or event today in the state, good chance it will be closed if there is *all day.Is there anywhere to park, sometimes if college kids up the street partying aren’t using it.Is it worth it, no go up the street 1st Ave has a better one.I go to a Dairy Queen 1-2 times a month, this one always falls short of the rest. Always something that makes me go, wow waste of my time, let me just get back in my car and leave.
October 31 · John TrentonBest DQ in town and they get to know you if you stop a lot.
June 28 · Cryssi HentgesThis is one of the old original Dairy Queen's. No indoor seating, just a walk up window. No burgers or fries just ice cream ice cream ice cream! I used to come here as a kid. Great memories, very nostalgic. Same benches out front, same little windows that seem like to hide a magical land world of treats, and then ice cream comes out!! Take a ride to the past and get a Dilly bar, banana split, or dipped cone here.
October 02 · Christine VilardoMost Dairy Queens I've been to are worn out a full of depressed and defeated staff. This one was amazing! Personable staff who care about the details and put passion and artistry into their treats! Thank youď
June 30 · Guy BrattonThey are always friendly and the Blizzards there are the best in town.
