Dari Delite has a rich history in the village of Hicksville, having served the community for decades. While the name and ownership have changed over the years, the essence of the place—a gathering spot for locals to enjoy delicious frozen treats and classic diner food—has remained. It's a place where local high school students often get their very first job experience, a tradition that further cements its role in the town's social fabric. This connection to the community, from providing employment opportunities to being a consistent backdrop for local memories, is a key reason for its enduring appeal.
Walking into Dari Delite, you are immediately greeted by a sense of nostalgia and the friendly, familiar faces of staff and fellow community members. The atmosphere is unpretentious and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a casual lunch or a celebratory dessert. The reasonable prices and good service are frequently noted by patrons, who appreciate the value and friendly interactions. While it's known for its ice cream, the menu offers a variety of food items, allowing it to function as a full-service diner and a dessert destination all in one.
The true star of the show, however, is the ice cream. Dari Delite is particularly renowned for its soft serve, a classic treat that has delighted taste buds for years. In addition to the soft serve, the shop also offers a selection of hard dip ice cream and even dairy-free options like Dole Whip, ensuring that there's a frozen treat for every preference and dietary need. The sundaes are a particular highlight, praised for their generous size and ample toppings. A large sundae with plenty of caramel, for example, is a popular choice and a refreshing way to end a meal or satisfy a sweet craving.
Beyond the menu, Dari Delite's location plays a significant role in its success. Situated on East High Street, directly across from the Hicksville school building, it has become a go-to spot for students, teachers, and parents alike. The establishment's longevity and consistency have made it a tradition for many local families, with generations of residents sharing their fond memories of visiting Dari Delite.
The commitment to providing quality products and a welcoming environment has helped Dari Delite remain a local landmark. Recent upgrades to the facility, including new ice machines and high-capacity soft serve machines, demonstrate a commitment to modernizing and improving the customer experience while still maintaining its classic charm. This blend of tradition and a willingness to evolve is a testament to the business's dedication to its customers and its desire to continue serving the community for many years to come.
In summary, Dari Delite is a perfect example of a local business that has grown to become an essential part of the community's identity. It's a place where simple pleasures—like a perfectly scooped sundae or a classic burger—create lasting memories. For anyone in Hicksville or the greater Ohio region looking for a taste of local tradition and a friendly, welcoming place to relax and enjoy a treat, Dari Delite is an institution that must be experienced. Its enduring legacy is a testament to the power of a local business to connect with and serve its community.
This article is a tribute to the enduring charm of Dari Delite, celebrating its place in the community and its role in creating sweet moments for countless people. While the food menu has a few items that might not hit the mark for everyone, as some customers have pointed out with dishes like the Texas tenderloin and the chicken strips, the ice cream remains a reliable and highly praised staple. The sundaes, in particular, are noted for their generous size and delicious toppings, making them a consistent favorite. This blend of a full food menu and a strong dessert focus ensures that there's something to appeal to every member of the family.
The occasional service issue or misstep, as noted by a customer who received what they felt were raw chicken nuggets, is a reminder that even cherished local spots face challenges. However, the overall sentiment from the community is one of appreciation and support, with many believing the business is capable of doing better and has a strong foundation to build on. These moments, while unfortunate, often serve as opportunities for growth and improvement, reinforcing the business's commitment to its customers in the long run. The community’s continued support speaks volumes about their faith in Dari Delite as a whole.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1A bright and cheerful ice cream parlour on the outskirts of Hicksville. The service was good and the prices reasonable. The food was ok and filled a gap but was not great.I had the Texas tenderloin which turned out to be a huge flat piece of meat that was pounded so thin as to be dry and tasteless beneath a crispy casing. The wife had the burger which she enjoyed.Thev ice cream sundae was large and nice with plenty of caramel topping. It was reasonably priced and refreshing.
August 03 · John KurtonGot the supposed “chicken strips” from ya if you’d like to call those a chicken strip looks more like 4 chicken nuggets oh and for the cherry on top what do ya know the meats raw. Looks like we’re gonna have to a little break from this place so they can get it together. How disrespectful and I tipped y’all. Took y’all from a 5 star to a 3 star imo. I’ve had proof y’all can do better.
June 10 · Tommy DevWow, so if you are taking the long way home from anywhere in OH back to Fort Wayne, this place is well worth the stop. If your on a diet keep on rolling, ordered a small cone and out came a waffle cone on steroids! When I questioned my order the young lady said it was correct. Holy waffle cone! Three scoops the size of softball size hail and a cone that you could wear to a birthday party as a hat!
June 28 · Andy GarciaThis place has very high prices. Over $6 for a plain cheeseburger?! My blasts rarely ever have the candy mixed through the whole thing. It’s usually just at the top. I hope someone else buys this place. The owner is ruining it. High Prices, Low Quality. So disappointing. :(
June 10 · Andy SmithAll bc the worker was mad at me, handed me drinks with lid half way off and spilling all over, more liquid then ice, not even half and half, I ordered a slush is. Not milk. this is not a slushee, nor how to treat costumers
