Eats 'N Sweets Introduce
Located in the scenic Poconos region of Pennsylvania, Eats 'N Sweets in Scotrun has been a local fixture since 1984, offering a delightful combination of frozen treats and classic American comfort food. This family-owned establishment aims to provide a welcoming atmosphere for both the local community and the many visitors exploring the natural beauty and attractions of the area. Specializing in ice cream sourced from the renowned Manning Farm Dairy, Eats 'N Sweets presents a variety of options, from creamy soft serve to rich hard ice cream, alongside a menu of casual bites. It’s often considered a convenient stop for families looking for a post-adventure treat or a quick meal.
One customer, visiting after a day at Great Wolf Lodge, highlighted several positive aspects of their experience: "Stopped by Eats and Sweets after a day at Great Wolf Lodge—perfect spot for a post-dinner treat with the family. The outdoor seating was a nice touch, and the portion sizes are very generous. What they call a 'small' felt more like a medium, so fair warning: you may want to scale down your order." This feedback emphasizes the generous servings, which are a definite plus for those seeking value, and the pleasant outdoor seating, perfect for enjoying a treat on a warm Pennsylvania day. The variety of flavors, including excellent soft serve and an enjoyable graham cracker ice cream, also received praise.
However, it's also important to consider all perspectives when evaluating a local business. The same reviewer noted that "some of the flavors are extremely sweet. The cookie dough was so sugary my wife didn't want to finish it 'Diabetes in a cup' came to mind. The chocolate brownie was also pushing it on sweetness." This suggests that while generous portions are appreciated, the sweetness level in some hard ice cream flavors might be intense for certain palates. Additionally, a minor point of clarity was made regarding the food menu: "despite the name, they don’t serve chicken burgers, just the standard burgers, dogs, and sandwiches." This is a helpful detail for new visitors setting their expectations for the food offerings.
A second, more critical review, provided significant feedback on the customer service aspect. While acknowledging that "the ice cream is delicious," the reviewer expressed deep disappointment with the staff's attitude, particularly from the owner’s wife. The detailed account included dismissive responses to simple questions about ice cream types, a loud public instruction to charge for a cup of ice, and an unhelpful exchange regarding a missing water order. Furthermore, requesting a cup for a messy child’s cone was met with "more attitude and a reminder that there’s a sign saying they charge for cups," which felt insulting. The reviewer concluded that the owners' failure to address their visible upset spoke volumes, leading to a feeling of being "judged, disrespected, and unwelcome." This highlights the crucial role that customer service plays in the overall experience, especially for a family-oriented establishment in Pennsylvania.
Despite these critical service observations, the underlying quality of the ice cream itself, sourced from Manning Farm Dairy, appears to remain a strong point. Manning Farm Dairy is known for producing high-quality homemade ice cream, and this local sourcing suggests a commitment to fresh and delicious ingredients for their frozen treats. The range of options, from soft serve (which was highly recommended by one reviewer) to various hard ice cream flavors, provides ample choice for ice cream enthusiasts. Furthermore, the inclusion of classic American eats like burgers, hot dogs, waffle fries, and pierogies offers a convenient option for a full, casual meal, making it more than just a dessert stop.

Not a dealbreaker, but worth noting.Overall, it's a fun spot with potential, but I wish they'd dial back the sugar just a bit. Still worth a visit—especially for the soft serve.
June 25 · Khurram Khan2 stars only because the ice cream is delicious. I really wanted to love Eats 'N Sweets, especially since our family in the Poconos has visited a few times before and often brings a group of kids who are always excited for ice cream. Unfortunately, each visit has become more disappointing, and the attitude from the staff particularly the owner’s wife has grown increasingly rude, both toward customers and even their own employees. On our most recent visit (my first time), we came with seven kids yes, seven, all excited for a fun treat. As I was placing an order for my partner and I, I ordered ice cream, and the young lady asked if I wanted soft or hard ice cream. I wasn’t sure, so I politely asked what the difference was. Her response? “Exactly what it sounds like one is hard, and the other is soft.” No explanation about texture, taste, or how they’re served, just a dismissive answer that made me feel uncomfortable asking a simple question (I had to ask my partner's sister-in-law, if she got hard or soft Ice cream) SMH. Then, I asked if they had ice water. I was told they only offer bottled water (which was fine), but when I asked if I could get a cup of ice, they said yes. The issue arose when the owner, who wasn’t even at the window but somewhere in the prep area, loudly yelled across the store to charge me for the ice. It felt unnecessary and embarrassing. I calmly replied that no one was trying to get anything for free. The teenage employee responded, “I’m charging her,” and rang up the order. In my opinion, for a place that serves families and kids, a little patience and willingness to explain would go a long way.Once our order was ready, I received the cup of ice and the ice creams but no water. After sitting down and realizing the water was missing, I went back to the ordering window. I had to knock because no one acknowledged me as I stood there. When someone finally came, the young lady said curtly, “I’ll be right with you.” I told her I never received my water, and she snapped back that I hadn’t asked for it, so she didn’t charge me. At that point, I was frustrated and just said, “Forget it.”To make things worse, when one of the babies started making a mess with their cone, we kindly asked for a cup to help only to be met with more attitude and a reminder that there’s a sign saying they charge for cups. Again, we weren’t asking for anything for free, just trying to avoid a meltdown and a mess. The assumption that we wouldn’t pay or were trying to get over on them was insulting. What really bothered me was when I went inside and asked who the owner was. A young lady pointed out her father (who glanced at me but said nothing), and when I asked about the woman in the back, she said, “That’s my mom.” Both of them heard me ask and clearly saw I was upset, yet neither came over to ask if there was an issue or if I had any concerns. That silence spoke volumes. This is supposed to be a fun spot for kids and families, but instead, we felt judged, disrespected, and unwelcome. I sincerely hope the owners take some time to reflect on how they treat paying customers especially families just trying to make happy memories with their little ones.
July 21 · Bianca TrinidadPerfect place for your special ice cream treat. Has a nice inside seating area making it stand apart from my ice cream stands. I am certain a lot of locals visit, but it’s also conveniently located to Mount Airy Casino Resort for visitors to also enjoy.
April 20 · DaneTasty soft serve, friendly staff. Nice to have outdoor seats. Serving size is big.
July 09 · Coco SongThe ice cream is so good! I only tried the soft serve, it is so thick and custardy! The banana split was perfect for two. Will try the hard ice cream next. Very pleased with the customer service and lots of signs for the safety of the patrons as the business is on a busy street.
