Hank's Frozen Custard Introduce
Hank's Frozen Custard, a cherished roadside stand in Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania, has been a local tradition since it first opened its doors in 1952. What began as a simple business founded by Ryan Hild's grandparents, has grown into a multi-generational legacy, built on a passion for quality and a dedication to the craft of making frozen custard. The business is a testament to the old-fashioned way of doing things, using the same four machines that have been churning out perfect custard since the very beginning. This commitment to tradition is what gives Hank's its unique, silky-smooth texture and rich flavor, distinguishing it from regular ice cream.
For many in the area, a trip to Hank's is more than just a stop for a cone; it's a nostalgic experience. The place is a local landmark, a spot that has served generations of families and has become synonymous with warm summer days and leisurely drives. The secret to their success lies in the product itself: a frozen custard with a minimum of 10% butterfat and 2.5% egg yolk. This higher-quality formula results in a denser, creamier, and more flavorful treat. While they offer classic vanilla and chocolate daily, their "flavor of the day" and pre-packaged pints are a major draw, with flavors like Cappuccino and Peanut Butter Custard receiving rave reviews from customers.
Located at 13940 Conneaut Lake Rd, Conneaut Lake, PA 16316, Hank's Frozen Custard is a classic roadside stand that is an easy stop for locals and a great find for visitors. Its location on a main road makes it highly accessible for those driving through Crawford County or heading to nearby Conneaut Lake. The business has a straightforward, walk-up window style, and while the experience is often quick and efficient, it is also a place where you can take a moment to enjoy the simple pleasure of an old-fashioned treat.
The accessibility of the location, coupled with its local fame, makes it a popular destination. Many visitors have been known to put Hank's on their "road trip list," making it a destination in itself. While the business is beloved, some customer reviews mention occasional issues with service or the quality of the product, such as custard being too soft. However, for the vast majority of patrons, the experience is overwhelmingly positive, with the staff and the delicious custard receiving high praise. The walk-up service means there isn't indoor seating, but the location provides a perfect backdrop for enjoying a cone outdoors.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I was in town for business and asked the account I was visiting if there was any local places I should check out while in town. They recommended Hank's. They even knew the flavor of the day which was Cappuccino. It's a roadside Custard place and all I can say is WOW. I ordered the Cappuccino as did my travel companion. Review= ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ it was stellar! super tasty and refreshing. Probably the best Custard I've ever had! I'm from Pittsburgh and will totally put this on my great reason to take a road trip list. After my first visit, I would totally recommend this place.
July 20 · Matthew HTerrible! She handed us custard that was already melting one of the cones just broke in half while my son held it getting his covered in ice cream. The girl was rude as well.
July 10 · Michelle GouldIconic, landmark place in Meadville! A must-visit place if you're in the area. We visited in early April after lunch, and it was still cold too, not exactly ice cream weather for most, but we wouldn't miss it. It came highly recommended by my mother-in-law, who grew up in Meadville and did not disappoint. Even with the cooler weather and time of day, there was still a small line when we arrived, and more people showed up afterward as well. All good signs of good food. The line went quickly, and our order was taken quickly as well. Our order came out pretty quickly, in about 10 minutes or just less. Everything was amazing! Loved it so much I forgot to take pictures of the ice cream order for the review. I got the hot fudge brownie sundae, and it was aaaaammmmmaaazzzziiiinnnnggg! The frozen custard it is renowned for is every bit as good as we were told. Absolutely wonderful taste and quality. Made the old-fashioned way. There is no dining in. Either you eat in your vehicle or on outdoor, unsheltered picnic tables, but that doesn't matter. I could imagine this pace being packed every day and night during the summer! Highly recommended to visit if you're in the area. We will definitely return when we visit Meadville again.
April 12 · Eric RansoneI’ve been coming here for the past 20 years. I love Hank’s soft serve and also they’re shakes and sundaes. I just recently had their turtle sundae which was so good. Ask their sundaes come with a lot of fudge (which I prefer). You can’t go wrong with the classic soft serve in a cone though. Be sure to stop by this staple of an establishment.
July 05 · Randy Alan ShafferGotta be good if the have been doing it since 1952. The old machines make some great frozen custard. Only bad thing was I couldn’t keep up with the melt. The ground and my shirt looked like a chocolate accident victim.
