Soft Serve Ice Cream: A perennial favorite, the soft serve is a staple of the menu. Customers can enjoy a variety of flavors, often including classic vanilla, chocolate, and twists. The soft serve is known for its smooth texture and is served in cones of different sizes.
Snicker Flurries: For those who love a mix-in, the flurries are a popular choice. The Snicker flurry, in particular, is a well-known option that combines creamy soft serve with pieces of the famous candy bar. It's a rich and satisfying treat for those who prefer their ice cream with some crunch and flavor variety.
Other Menu Items: While the soft serve and flurries are highlights, the shop likely offers other standard ice cream shop fare. These can include sundaes, shakes, and other classic combinations, though a full, up-to-date menu would need to be verified at the location itself. The focus remains on providing traditional and beloved ice cream experiences.
The Ice Cream Caboose is known for a few key features that define the customer experience. These highlights are part of what make it a memorable local spot.
A Cash-Only Policy: A notable aspect of the Ice Cream Caboose is its traditional payment method. The establishment has historically operated on a cash-only basis, which is important for customers to remember before they visit. This policy can be a surprise for some, but it’s a part of the shop's old-school charm.
Simple, Classic Offerings: The shop’s strength lies in its straightforward menu. Instead of an overwhelming number of choices, they focus on doing a few things well. The classic soft serve and popular flurries are what keep customers coming back, providing a sense of nostalgia and reliability.
Community-Focused Environment: The Ice Cream Caboose is a gathering place. Its simple setup, with a walk-up window, encourages interaction and creates a relaxed, community-oriented atmosphere. It’s a place where you can expect to see people from all walks of life, from families with young children to teenagers and seniors, all enjoying the same simple pleasure.
Potential for Size Inconsistency: It's worth noting that customer experiences have occasionally mentioned perceived inconsistencies in serving sizes, particularly between different sized orders like medium and large twists, or in the fill level of to-go flurries. While this is not a universal experience, it is something that a few customers have pointed out.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We used to come here a lot when we lived in Lowell. We were in town and showing our kids all our favourite places we used to go and stopped here, but they only took cash. To prevent devastating my kids after 20 minutes of promising ice cream, my husband had to go across the road to get cash back at the gas station which was annoying. The soft serve was good, but I felt like the amaretto and the vanilla soft serve tasted almost identical
July 14 · Morgan WhitneyKind of upsetting today. My family and I decided to stop and get some ice cream. Oddly enough the medium and large twist look the exact same size but they’re differently priced. Either way we ate our ice cream and decided to get a snicker flurry to go for later. It’s was $7.10 for a large snicker flurry. As I was driving away, I just happened to look at the cup in the cup holder and saw the shadow of how much ice cream was actually in the cup as the sun was on it. Yes, barely over half full is apparently considered a large. I would have gone back up to the counter and said something had I noticed it before we left, but I got it to go and there was a lid on it so I didn’t even think to check before we started driving.Might be a while before we visit again. We have been here many times over the years and this is the first time this has happened. A little upsetting.
June 16 · J BCute walk-up ice cream shop. It’s a real caboose. They serve soft serve ice cream with many different flavors. They also serve Hudsonville hard ice cream. My husband got the German chocolate cone. I splurged on the cherry sundae. Yes it comes with whipped cream and a maraschino cherry. The cherry sundae was cherry pie filling topping. There was a lot of it even for the small sundae. There is outdoor seating, picnic benches, and bunches near the carryout window. The train theme is perfect for Alto Michigan.Make sure you get a lot of napkins. On a hot day, real ice cream drips all down your hand. It’s part of the experience!
June 21 · Julie HThe idea of a ice cream shop inside the Caboose is a wonderful idea. Have any kiddo interested in trains and this is a place you must visit. While you dont actually get to be inside the Caboose, the that is where the ice cream magic happens ... adds to its mystery and coolness. You do get to see the train car on the original tracks if you walk around to the backside of the shop which is really neat to see. Our service was great, fast and everyone of the customers seemed happy and the environment was a positive one. They food choices and ice cream options were simplified but there is definitely something for everyone. We will visit again!
