Iceland's Introduce
Iceland's is a local ice cream shop located in Appomattox, Virginia, aiming to provide a go-to spot for classic frozen desserts. The shop provides a simple and straightforward menu focused on traditional favorites, making it a reliable choice for a sweet indulgence. Patrons can find a range of options that cater to different preferences, from soft serve to more elaborate sundaes. The goal of the business is to be a convenient and accessible option for those in the Appomattox area who are looking for a quick and satisfying dessert.
As a local establishment, Iceland's serves as an alternative to larger, national chains, and its existence is important for those who wish to support small businesses within their community. While the shop strives to provide a positive experience, customer feedback suggests there may be some inconsistencies in both service and product quality. Some reviews mention issues with customer service, such as a lack of basic hospitality, while others highlight concerns about the freshness of ingredients. These are areas that the business may need to address to better serve its customers and live up to its potential as a beloved local spot. The success of any small business often relies on consistent quality and a strong connection to the community, and Iceland's is no exception.
Despite some of these challenges, the shop has potential and remains an option for local residents. The presentation of some of their items, such as the apple pie sundae, has been noted as visually appealing, which can be a strong point. Customers who have had good experiences have enjoyed the offerings, and the very act of choosing a local spot over a chain can be a motivating factor for many. The shop’s ability to improve upon the feedback received will likely determine its long-term success and its place in the heart of the Appomattox community. It’s a business with the opportunity to grow and become a cherished destination by focusing on consistency in both product and service. For locals, supporting a place like Iceland's is a way to invest in the fabric of their own town.
Iceland's is situated at 180 Old Courthouse Rd, Appomattox, VA 24522, USA. This location places it in a key area of Appomattox, making it a convenient stop for both residents and visitors exploring the historic town. Old Courthouse Road is a central artery, ensuring that the shop is relatively easy to find and access. Its placement makes it an ideal spot to stop for a treat after visiting some of the nearby historical sites or running errands in town. The accessibility of the location is one of its strengths, as it's not tucked away in a remote area, but rather is part of the main flow of traffic in the community. This makes it a natural destination for a casual outing.
Parking is typically available on-site, allowing customers to easily pull in, place their order, and enjoy their dessert. The setup is designed for convenience, with a counter for ordering and serving. While this type of setup can be efficient, it can also lead to challenges if the service is not as polished as customers might expect, as some reviews have pointed out. The shop's physical location and accessibility are generally good, providing a solid foundation for a business that caters to local foot and car traffic. For Appomattox locals, its central spot means it's never too far away when a craving for ice cream strikes.
Iceland's offers a menu that focuses on classic ice cream shop favorites. The selection is designed to appeal to a broad audience, with options that are familiar and comforting. The services offered and the types of items available include:
- Ice Cream Scoops: Customers can purchase scoops of various ice cream flavors, which can be served in a cup or cone. This is a foundational offering that many patrons look for in an ice cream shop.
- Sundaes: The shop serves a range of sundaes, which are a popular dessert choice. The apple pie sundae, in particular, has been mentioned for its appealing presentation, offering a visually enticing option.
- Soft Serve: A classic ice cream shop staple, soft serve is available, providing a smooth and creamy texture that many people enjoy.
- "Storm" Desserts: This appears to be the shop’s version of a blended ice cream treat, similar to a Blizzard or concrete. It allows for a customizable mix of ice cream and other ingredients.
- Take-Out Service: As a counter-service establishment, all orders are for take-out. While this provides a quick service model, it also means customers are responsible for their own napkins and spoons, a detail that has been a point of contention for some.
The menu is what you would expect from a classic ice cream shop, with a focus on simplicity and traditional flavors. While this provides a comforting sense of familiarity, the quality and execution of these items are what ultimately determine a customer's satisfaction. The variety of options ensures that there is something for everyone, but the business's challenge is to ensure that each item is consistently excellent.
As a local ice cream shop, Iceland's has several features that define its place in the Appomattox community. While some of these are positive, others reflect opportunities for improvement based on public feedback.
- Local Ownership: As a small, non-franchise business, it provides an opportunity for the community to support a local entrepreneur instead of a large corporation. This is a significant factor for many patrons who prioritize keeping money within their town.
- Classic Dessert Menu: The shop offers a simple, classic menu with items like sundaes, soft serve, and storms. This appeals to a wide audience who are looking for traditional ice cream shop fare without overly complex or trendy options.
- Visual Presentation: Some items, like the apple pie sundae, have been noted for their appealing presentation. This visual aspect can be a strong point, as a well-presented dessert can be very enticing.
- Service Experience: Customer reviews indicate that the service can be inconsistent. While some customers might have a fine experience, others have reported a lack of hospitality and attention to detail, such as not being provided with napkins or spoons. This is a key area for improvement.
- Product Quality Control: A significant highlight in negative feedback is the issue of product quality. Serving items with a “rotten/fermented” taste is a serious concern that the business must address to maintain customer trust and safety. Consistency and freshness are critical for any food service business.
These features, both positive and negative, paint a picture of a business with potential that needs to focus on operational consistency to thrive. The desire of locals to support an alternative to corporate chains is strong, and if Iceland's can address the issues raised by customers, it could solidify its position as a go-to spot.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1They did not hand me my ice cream, they placed my order on the wet counter after it had rained. It bothered me because after the tablet asks you for a tip, you expect some sort of hospitality. No spoons or napkins. The presentation of the apple pie sundae is great but it did not taste as good as it looks. Maybe the scooped ice cream is better. Maybe it was a bad day but better service will make this place better.
July 23 · Neddy PazosBeen coming here occasionally for the past few years. Never had too much of a problem before tonight. I ordered a strawberry sundae and the strawberries had a horrible rotten/fermented taste. I had to throw out the whole thing because obviously I don’t want to get sick. My husband ordered a storm and while it tasted fine it was only filled 3/4 of the way. Safe to say we will not be returning. Unfortunate because we would love to support a local business other than supporting Dairy Queen. But I just can’t justify going back to a place that is serving rotten food.
August 02 · Maggie NeighborsI drive thru here at least twice a month to treat my 3 children and myself. We haven't ordered anything that we didn't like! The employees are always friendly! I drive thru during their less busy times to avoid long waits. There are only 1 to 2 employees working, and they are working the drive thru window and a walk up window so it can get very busy very quickly. As long as you visit on their "off times" you can avoid a long wait! All desserts are delicious!
July 11 · Samantha SmithWe've gone here for years for a quality cone...and then I decided to try their "hard ice cream.". What a mistake- ice cream was fine, but they rip you off on the portion. If you go, stick to the sit serve. $6.50 for an inch of ice cream above the cone is quite an overcharge.
April 03 · d donovanBest icecream around and I love icecream. 10/10 for quality and amount for the money. The only downside is me not being able to have it every day.
