This article explores what makes Kelley Country Creamery a beloved local spot, providing a comprehensive guide for anyone looking to enjoy some of the best ice cream the state has to offer.
The story of Kelley Country Creamery is deeply rooted in the state’s agricultural heritage. For generations, the Kelley family has been dedicated to dairy farming, and the creamery represents a natural evolution of that passion. It's a place that was once known for its farm-to-cone philosophy, where visitors could enjoy ice cream made from the milk of the farm's very own cows. While the business has evolved and no longer sources its milk from its own herd, the legacy of quality and a commitment to delicious flavors remains. The creamery has built a reputation for offering a wide variety of inventive and classic flavors, all served in a charming, rural setting that feels like a true escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. This unique combination of a beautiful location and high-quality treats is what has cemented its place as a regional favorite. The sheer number of visitors, especially on a busy weekend, is a testament to its enduring popularity. People travel from all corners of the state to get a taste of their famous creations, and the friendly, professional atmosphere ensures that every guest feels welcome.
Kelley Country Creamery is located at W5215 Co Rd B, Fond du Lac, WI 54937, USA. Its location is a key part of its charm. Positioned in what has been affectionately described as “the middle of nowhere,” the journey to the creamery is an adventure in itself. It's a drive that takes you through scenic Wisconsin farmland, offering a glimpse into the state's agricultural heartland. The accessibility is straightforward, with the creamery situated on a well-maintained county road. For those driving, there is ample parking available, making it easy to visit even during peak hours. The "out-of-the-way" nature of the location is precisely what many locals appreciate, as it provides a perfect excuse for a scenic drive and a peaceful outing. While it might not be a place you stumble upon by accident, it is certainly a place worth seeking out. The rural setting contributes significantly to the overall experience, creating a relaxing environment where families can gather and enjoy their treats amidst the backdrop of rolling fields. However, potential visitors should be aware that public transportation options to this location are limited, so driving is the most practical way to get there. The journey is part of the fun, and arriving at the creamery feels like discovering a hidden gem that many Wisconsin residents have known and loved for years.
The creamery offers a range of services designed to make your visit enjoyable and memorable. They are a specialty ice cream shop first and foremost, with a focus on providing a wide array of flavors to satisfy every palate. While they have made some changes to their operations over time, their core mission of serving delicious ice cream remains. The main service is, of course, the sale of their signature ice cream in various forms, including cones and dishes. Patrons can also purchase larger quantities to take home, allowing them to enjoy the Kelley Country Creamery experience long after their visit. The service style is known for being efficient, which is a significant plus, especially on busy days when lines can extend out the door. The staff works diligently to ensure that the long lines move quickly, though this speed sometimes means there's little time for deliberation. It's a good idea to have your flavor choice in mind before you get to the counter to keep the line moving smoothly. While some past visitors have noted that the shop no longer offers samples, which is a policy implemented to maintain efficiency, the wide range of flavors on display provides plenty of options for a new discovery each time you visit. They also offer a variety of seating options for visitors to enjoy their ice cream on-site.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Definitely meets their theme of “Best Ice Cream in the Middle of Nowhere”. It pretty much is an out of the way place. My wife read about it and insisted we stop as we were passing through the area. It was really busy on a Saturday evening about 30 minutes before closing. The line was well outside the door by probably 30 or more individuals, but it moved fast. That’s good and bad. It makes you feel like you have to have made your decision before getting to the counter (like the soup nazi). No tastings. Understandable as they want the line to keep moving. The ice cream was average but also reasonably priced. The setting was nice, we sat outside at a picnic table, but probably not so nice on an extremely hot, humid day or a rainy day. There’s only very limited indoor seating.Overall worth the stop if you’re close by and looking for a treat or a pleasant setting for it. Probably wouldn’t make a special trip here (unless the wife wants to go).
July 07 · michael crutcherI used to really love this place but I feel like the quality and experience is going downhill. They no longer use their own cows’ milk and now outsource their milk, so it’s not really local anymore. The quality isn’t as good, maybe because of this. The ice cream seemed harder and less creamy. They also no longer serve coffee.I could have sworn they used to do samples, but when I said “Could I try-“ I was immediately cut off and was told “We don’t do that.” Not a fan of the policy but can at least communicate it politely and kindly. The scenery is still nice (although was nicer to see the cows) and they have a good variety of flavors. Seems like they’re more focused on business and have let the quality slip a bit. Hope it goes back to how it used to be soon.
May 01 · Melissa HillDelicious ice cream with relaxing outdoor seating. I have visited several times and the service has been consistently polite, and in sanitary conditions. The flavors rotate, I have tried a lot of flavors during my visits, and enjoyed each of them. Plenty of customers come and go for a quick snack. Parking is plentiful, and a perfect location for a motorcycle stop!
July 01 · David OrtegaI had a custom ice cream cake made for a birthday party and it turned out so pretty. The only direction I gave besides the flavor choices was a wildflower theme. It was adorable and of course very tasty. They did such a fantastic job!
June 20 · Kristine LathropFirst time at Kelley’s Creamery and I thought the area was cute. Upon arrival, I was surprised by how busy it was being only 5 minutes after they opened. I was surprised by how small the place was despite the farm being huge. I wasn’t really impressed by that and I also wasn’t impressed with for how many flavors they produce, they only show like 10 flavors at a time. I felt very limited on choice of flavor. I also felt very rushed due to the facility being so small and the next man waiting in line. The quality of the ice cream was good but I didn’t even get to pick a flavor I wanted because it was rushed. Overall, it was a nice pit stop for ice cream maybe once in a blue moon if your in the area but otherwise I would go elsewhere.
