Keyes Creamery Introduce
Nestled in the picturesque countryside of Churchville, Maryland, Keyes Creamery offers a truly unique and authentic ice cream experience that sets it apart from typical parlors. Located at 349 Hopewell Rd, this isn't just an ice cream shop; it's a working dairy farm where the journey from cow to cone happens right before your eyes. The Keyes family has been farming in Harford County for over 60 years, and their dedication to quality shines through in every rich, creamy scoop. For locals seeking a genuine taste of farm-fresh goodness, Keyes Creamery is an essential destination, providing an unparalleled connection to the source of their delightful desserts.
What makes Keyes Creamery so special is its commitment to the entire process. The ice cream is made weekly on-site, using milk exclusively from their own grass-fed cows that can often be seen grazing peacefully at the edge of the parking lot. This direct farm-to-table (or rather, farm-to-cone) approach ensures an unparalleled freshness and richness that is hard to find elsewhere. While they offer many standard ice cream flavors that you might expect, they are crafted with exceptional care and served with a friendly touch, transforming familiar tastes into something truly memorable. This focus on fundamental quality and traditional methods is a key differentiator that resonates deeply with discerning ice cream enthusiasts.
Beyond the classic flavors, Keyes Creamery also delights with creative and uniquely named concoctions, such as their popular "Cow's Feet" flavor (chocolate chip with peanut butter swirl) and "Goose Feathers" (cake batter with fudge ripple). This playful innovation, combined with the inherent quality of their dairy, ensures that every visit offers something new and exciting to try. Customers rave about the deliciousness and the generous portions, noting that the ice cream is truly "well worth the bang for your buck," providing significant value for the price. This combination of quality, creativity, and value makes Keyes Creamery a formidable competitor to larger chain ice cream shops.
The ambiance at Keyes Creamery further enhances the experience. While there's no indoor seating, the establishment boasts a generous porch with numerous tables and a pavilion equipped with picnic tables. This ample outdoor seating allows visitors to fully immerse themselves in the idyllic farm setting, often enjoying views of the cows or even skydivers parachuting nearby. The friendly staff contributes significantly to the welcoming atmosphere, consistently providing excellent service that complements the delicious treats. It’s a place designed for leisurely enjoyment, encouraging patrons to savor their ice cream in a relaxed, open-air environment.
Keyes Creamery is more than just an ice cream shop; it's a celebration of local agriculture, family heritage, and the simple pleasure of fresh, high-quality dairy. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1If you are like me, you love an ice cream place where the cows are grazing literally at the edge of the parking lot. The ice cream at Keyes Creamery was very rich. Mostly the standard flavors you find everywhere. But done with care and served by a very friendly staff. note that they charge by weight not by the scoop. So go ahead and pile a little bit extra on.There is no indoor seating, but there’s a generous porch with lots of tables and a pavilion equipped with picnic tables. There is plenty of parking. My only complaint is that there is no indoor bathroom. They do provide a porta potty. sorry, no photos of the ice cream cones. It was melting too fast.
April 22 · Russ JohnsonWell no wonder why there aren't any chain ice cream shops like Baskin-Robbins or cold stone nearby, because they have no possible hope of competing with this place! Seriously, the staff are very friendly, and most importantly the ice cream is well worth the bang for your buck! You get so much ice cream for an amazingly fair price, and not only is it a good price, but it is freaking delicious! Definitely give this place a try, I cannot stress this enough! Get the cow's feet flavor!
July 09 · Matt KernThis place sells some of the best ice cream I have ever had. There are lots of flavors to choose from. They can make floats or milkshakes too. Lot of options. There is a nice area outside for seating in a pavilion and outdoor games for the kids.
July 14 · Shanna OldewurtelOrdered an ice cream cake for my daughter's bridal shower. Everyone RAVED about it! It was delicious. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. We will definitely be back!! Thank you for a wonderful experience!
