★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Never had I ever heard of chongos until today. The lady gave me a sample of their chongo ice cream and I was in love.My goodness soooooooooo creamy!!!! And the sweetness was on point! It’s like 6.50 for a small cup but the portions size is quite big.I also had a bag of house made chips with limón and salsa Valentina. It was all a fun experience, I don’t get to eat Mexican much and these two things I have not had before so it was a great experience all around.
September 17 · Daniel ParedesI really wanted some Ice Cream after dinner on the way home from work. I initially tried to go to Cones on the Corner, which indicated they were open (but they weren't much to my disappointment). I was almost crushed, but found that La Canasta Bakery & La Michoacana Ice Cream was only a three minute drive away in Silvis. Excitedly, I headed over to get my post dinner sweet treat.I don't think I'd driven to Silvis for anything in my life prior to this. The area around 1st Avenue is delightful - lots of little shops lining either side of the road, including this Bakery and Ice Cream shop. I really need to come back to visit again, perhaps for Frank's Pizza or Mr. Panda. The interior of La Michoacana Ice Cream was as delightful as the exterior. The furnishings are what you'd expect in a modern shop selling about anything - The floors were a new wood laminate of somewhat faded appearance, the ceiling area consisted of a drop ceiling with 2x4 foot tiles and florescent fixtures, and new displays behind the ice cream counter listed off all the products and associated prices. The mascot of sorts for the store and associated decoration was a sort of hispanic little girl chibi person - hadn't seen this before, but it was neat.I opted for two scoops of ice cream in a waffle cone. The bottom scoop ended up being a sort of cookie ice cream (not the typical cookies and cream) and for the top scoop I opted for mango ice cream. Both were pretty good - probably not worth driving all the way to Silvis solely to procure again, but if I were eating in the area I'd stop by again. It's a nice store with some solid ice cream. It definitely satiated my sweet tooth after dinner tonight. If I'm in Silvis again, I'd consider stopping by again. Thanks, La Michoacana!
February 15 · Joe KopaczAs much I want to give a higher rating because it’s a unique Mexican store, I can’t since my husband and I were really disappointed. The place looks clean and smells clean. When we went there, there was only one staff and it was okay since there were just us and another customer that went in. It looks good. We ordered the Mangonadas and Michelaguas. The staff asked me what popsicle ice cream to put since it comes with a popsicle ice cream, I said mango. But she insisted on lemon since that’s what they always use even tho the picture doesn’t have a green popsicle in it. Since I don’t know what it tasted like, I gave it a go. I was so wrong. I could barely understand what she was saying too. She also put a monster energy drink on that ice cream instead of agua something that they were supposed to put since they are out. The thing is, monster energy drinks have a lot of caffeine. And I wouldn’t want my kid not knowingly drinking/eating that. The label should write “monster energy drink” not just monster. For all I know, there could be a “monster” candy. So we ate/drank it at home and it didn’t taste as good as it looked—both Mangonadas and Michelaguas. The combination of tastes are just not good. Yes, it is unique but it doesn’t taste good. It’s waaaay too sour. The Mexican-twizzler-jelly on top tasted like a cheap perfumed plastic jelly candy. The red sauce on the mango slushy part tasted sour too. There’s tamarind on the straw that tasted sour then there’s a spicy and salty salt at the brim of the cup. It was horrrible—every piece in that drink and overall. I’ve tasted different ice creams and drinks of different countries and if this is what Mexican ice cream/drinks taste like then I don’t like it at all, even my husband didn’t like it. I’m appalled if this is what Mexican ice creams/drinks tastes like since I love Mexican food.We wasted $18 for the ice cream/drinks we could barely finish. Plus we both had major acid reflux after and that only happens to me when I eat food with a lot of preservatives, yet it says on the board at the cashier that it’s 100% natural. Please improve this. It’s not just about how good the store looks, how clean it looks, and how unique it is. It’s also about the quality and the taste of the products you sell. The quality is just way off compared to the price. Way overpriced for that kind of taste. Please put more detailed labels on the ice cream/drinks that you sell too. This store has a lot of potential.
February 09 · GladylivesI appreciate that they're trying, but having been to a Michoacána on the West Coast, they have no idea what theyre doing.I've been here twice now and I feel like there's a certain expectation when it comes to Mexican antojitos - papas locas are not walking tacos...raspados are not for drinking. I would have been ok with drinking my jamaica flavored raspado, if the jamaica was good. The staff didn't even know what lechera was 🤦🏻♀️
May 05 · Stefani Hoagasked for only jicama and didnt get a full cup since they didnt have much. Still got charged $7 for this much.. as well as i didnt get much on a small cup of elote was filled like halfway.. one had less than the other 2 cups of elote.
