Magic Cones Plant Based Ice Cream Parlor is situated at 550-552 Central Avenue in Newark, New Jersey. Central Avenue is a significant thoroughfare in Newark, indicating that the location is relatively accessible within the city. Its position on a main road often implies ease of navigation for those traveling by car.
Accessibility in Newark often involves a combination of private vehicle use and public transportation. Central Avenue is typically served by local bus routes, which would provide convenient access for residents relying on public transit. For those driving, street parking might be available in the vicinity, though this can vary depending on the time of day and specific city regulations. The address falls within a bustling urban environment, making it a potentially convenient stop for people living or working in the area.
It's important to note, however, that one customer review indicated challenges with the store's accessibility regarding its operating hours. The reviewer mentioned visiting multiple times, including a Saturday evening when Google hours showed the store as open, only to find it closed with shutters down. This suggests that while the physical location is on a main road, potential customers should verify current operating hours before visiting, perhaps by calling ahead, to ensure the store is open. Despite this, the existence of the physical storefront and its presence on a main avenue still points to a strategic location aimed at serving the Newark community.

Magic Cones Plant Based Ice Cream Parlor in Newark, NJ, located on Central Avenue, holds significant suitability for locals in the New Jersey region, especially for those seeking dairy-free and vegan dessert options. Its fundamental commitment to being a 100% plant-based ice cream parlor fills a crucial niche in the market, providing a dedicated space where individuals with dietary restrictions or ethical preferences can confidently enjoy a wide variety of frozen treats without concern for dairy ingredients. This focus on inclusivity makes it a vital resource for the growing vegan community and those with lactose intolerance in Newark and surrounding areas.
The positive feedback, though limited, highlights the quality of its offerings, with one satisfied customer exclaiming, "Yum yum yum ice cream in my tummy! That Cookie Monster creation was dope!" This indicates that beyond just being plant-based, the ice cream is genuinely delicious and offers creative, appealing flavors that stand out. The potential for "alkaline options" further underscores its commitment to catering to specific health-conscious dietary needs, adding another layer of appeal for locals prioritizing wellness. As a co-op owned establishment, it may also resonate with community members who value supporting businesses with shared ownership and local ties.
However, it is crucial to address the significant concern raised by a customer regarding the store's operating hours and accessibility. One review explicitly states, "Magic Cones has never been open anytime I've gone. I went there at least twice. Once during the day in the summer, but the most recent was the day I took the photos because the hours on Google showed the store was open until 9pm on a Saturday in 18 January 2025. It was not." This feedback strongly suggests that while the storefront "appears nice" and the concept is appealing, potential visitors should exercise caution and ideally confirm current operating hours directly with the store via phone or reliable online channels before making a trip. The discrepancy in reported hours versus actual availability is a considerable drawback that impacts its reliability for locals.
Despite these operational challenges, the unique value proposition of Magic Cones as a dedicated plant-based ice cream parlor with promising flavors makes it an important and desirable option for its target audience in New Jersey. For those who can successfully time their visits when the parlor is open, it promises a rewarding and delicious dairy-free experience, contributing positively to Newark's diverse culinary landscape.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Please note I have never purchased any items from this parlor. The star rating is required in order to share a review. I gave two stars because the place actually exists and the store front appears nice. However, Magic Cones has never been open anytime I've gone. I went there at least twice. Once during the day in the summer, but the most recent was the day I took the photos because the hours on Google showed the store was open until 9pm on a Saturday in 18 January 2025. It was not. I suggested new hours because I was at the store at least 2 hours before the stated closing and as you can see the shutters are down in the photo. I hope to try the ice cream "someday."
February 05 · Francis MinervaYum yum yum ice cream in my tummy! That Cookie Monster creation was dope! I’ll be back on Monday to support
April 06 · Marietta WilliamsVery good ! Love a good plant based ice cream and the idea of giving the community dairy free options .. the cherry vanilla is my fave , will be back to try the soursop icecream! Yum
September 18 · Ronisha FlowersThe best ice cream in the area. I would place some chairs and some sort of umbrella in the front or a bench simple, so people can seat, that could add a better atmosphere to the business. But the food is incredible delicious.
July 25 · Katty AybarIce cream is incredible 🔥, all 3 stores next to each other are alkaline plant based approved. Highly recommend more people try this dessert spot out instead of other “vegan plant based” locations
