This place has been on my bucket list for over two years since moving to the area. I will say the ice cream is phenomenal and the prices are unbeatable. ** Special note- there is no seating inside or outside.** Only mental park benches are outside which were unsuitable in the rain we encountered today. I attempted to eat my large ice cream hunched over one table in the corner without a chair. It was good but this could be a better experience. Would recommend you try at least once. - michelle abbott

Nutter's Ice Cream Introduce

For over two decades, Nutter's Ice Cream has been a sweet fixture in the historic town of Sharpsburg, Maryland. More than just a place to grab a cone, this family-owned shop has become a cherished part of the local community, known for its generous portions, wide variety of flavors, and an atmosphere that feels like a delightful step back in time. Situated near the historic Antietam National Battlefield, Nutter's offers a perfect treat for everyone, whether you're a local resident or a visitor exploring the rich history of Washington County. It's the kind of place that creates lasting memories, a destination where the ice cream is as memorable as the experience itself.

The shop first opened its doors in May of 1996, the realization of a dream for owner Deb Nutter. The location itself holds a special place in Sharpsburg's history, having once been home to the well-loved Kretzer's Market. By preserving the nostalgic feel of the old grocery store, Deb Nutter created an ice cream parlor that feels both new and deeply familiar. The shop's commitment to quality and community has earned it a consistent spot on Hagerstown Magazine's "Hot List" for Best Ice Cream Shop. With an unwavering dedication to its craft and its customers, Nutter’s Ice Cream has become an iconic gathering place, a tradition for generations of families, little league teams, and history buffs alike.

The charm of Nutter's Ice Cream lies in its ability to blend old-fashioned values with a modern passion for delicious treats. Many customers have noted that the shop feels like it's "straight out of the past," and this is no accident. The building itself is a historical gem, with much of the original structure from when it was built still intact. The vintage shelving, the floors, and even some of the items on display are all part of the building's storied past, lending an authentic and unique character to the shop. This attention to detail and preservation makes every visit feel like a special occasion.

The reputation for massive portions and incredible value is a frequent highlight in customer reviews, with many people commenting on the unbeatable prices for the amount of ice cream they receive. One reviewer noted that a "small" banana split was equivalent to "six scoops of ice cream anywhere else," a testament to the shop's commitment to giving its customers their money's worth. This focus on value, combined with the quality of the ice cream, ensures that everyone leaves with a smile. The shop serves popular brands like Hood and Turkey Hill, ensuring a classic and satisfying taste with every scoop.

Beyond the scoops, Nutter's is also known for its dedicated staff. Customers often mention the friendly, smiling faces of the team, even when they're working hard to serve a line stretching out the door. This kind of warm, welcoming service adds to the overall experience and reinforces the shop's role as a beloved community hub. The passion and camaraderie of the staff make every visit feel personal and special.

With a commitment to serving the community, Nutter's Ice Cream is a must-visit destination in Sharpsburg. It’s more than just a quick stop; it’s a local institution that embodies the heart and soul of the town. Whether you're craving a classic cone or an indulgent sundae, Nutter's provides a genuine, memorable, and delicious experience that keeps locals and visitors coming back year after year.
