It's a place where families and individuals can find a moment of cool, sweet relief, making it a popular destination during the warmer months.
The core of Rita's appeal lies in its dual identity. It is an Italian ice shop, with a huge selection of flavors that are light, refreshing, and incredibly flavorful. It is also a purveyor of high-quality frozen custard, which provides a dense, creamy alternative. However, the true magic happens when these two products are combined to create signature items like the Gelati, a layered treat of Italian ice and frozen custard, or the Blendini, a mix of Italian ice and custard with various toppings. This creative menu, combined with a commitment to offering options like sugar-free Italian ice, makes Rita's a versatile spot that can satisfy many different cravings and dietary needs.
The community's perception of this location is multifaceted, highlighting both its strengths and potential areas for improvement. While some customers rave about the friendly, engaging staff who go above and beyond to provide a great experience, others express frustration with long wait times and what they perceive as unprofessional behavior. This mix of experiences points to the lively, often bustling nature of the shop, especially during peak times. However, the deliciousness and variety of the treats themselves are often the primary draw, keeping a steady flow of customers who are eager to get their hands on a Rita's classic. The shop’s ability to offer a fun, customizable dessert experience is a major reason for its enduring local popularity.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1My wife and I have never been to a Rita’s before and we sure will be coming back! We went earlier during the day around noon and we had no clue what we were looking at. There were so many flavors, which is also another bonus due to the sugar free options as well! The worker, I believe her name was Ava or something along those lines, walked us through the process of ordering and what flavors/products were the most popular. We asked the poor girl for so many samples but she kept serving us with a smile! She asked us questions like where we were coming from and how we were enjoying our time in the Pittsburgh area. She even gave us recommendations for things to do! It was a wonderful experience and it made my wife’s and I day. Great job!
June 27 · christianI don’t understand how this place gets business. It’s so expensive like $5.23 for a small galati that’s crazy. ALL of the workers are unprofessional, dancing screaming and having conversations at the window while there’s long lines. The wait is awful especially when a worker has a window open talking to their friends when there’s a whole line of people waiting, like does anybody even work here? I couldn’t believe it when I was there. How is this place still running? Can someone answer me that? Just don’t bother going here it’s not worth anyone’s time and/or money for young irresponsible people to make you a treat in a filthy, disgusting ass environment. HORRIBLE PLACE!!
June 08 · josh funarieEveryone is so friendly and even if you go every day they say welcome to Rita's with a smile and never rushed no matter how long the line is, which clears so efficiently to get to perfect sweet treat each time! Obsessed.
June 19 · Shaydele GardnerIt didn’t hit me until this time how high the prices are for Rita’s.$5 for a small vanilla custard? Yikes! Don’t get me totally wrong here - yes, we’re paying for a brand name and yes, it’s surely high quality, so I do understand. Plus you have to account for labor, but at the same time, it’s still not all THAT great especially given the portion size. This was the last time I’ve been to Rita’s and probably will be for a while - not so much worth it anymore. If you’re going to pay that much for ice cream and enjoy a fun family experience while you’re at it, you may be better off looking into other more localized operations such as the wonderful Bruster’s and Tasty Kreme (consumers beware - they only take cash but the Rite Aid next door does have an ATM if that helps).
August 23 · Sam BelmanThe staff were very rude. When we ordered our concrete, the worker said “ugh I don’t like making concretes.” She gave us a face of disgust. It was not made to the satisfaction that we have had in the past.
