Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard Introduce
For many in Pennsylvania, the name Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard is synonymous with warm weather and sweet, refreshing treats. The Media, PA, location at 220 Providence Rd is a cherished spot for locals looking to enjoy a classic water ice, rich frozen custard, or one of their many signature creations. What started as a local tradition in a neighboring county has blossomed into a regional favorite, and the Media store proudly carries on that legacy, offering a wide array of frozen desserts that cater to every taste.
The core of Rita's appeal is its commitment to fresh, high-quality products. The famous Italian ice, which many Pennsylvanians refer to as "water ice," is made fresh daily on-site. This dedication to freshness results in a consistently smooth texture and a burst of flavor that distinguishes it from other frozen treats. The menu features a rotating selection of over 80 flavors, ensuring there is always something new and exciting to try, alongside the timeless favorites. Whether you’re craving a fruity, refreshing scoop or a creamy, decadent dessert, Rita’s has something for you.
Beyond their iconic water ice, the store also serves award-winning Old-Fashioned Frozen Custard. This creamy, rich dessert is the perfect complement to the water ice, and their signature "Gelati," a layered combination of the two, is a must-try. The Gelati beautifully balances the sweetness of the water ice with the creamy texture of the custard, creating a truly memorable experience. This inventive use of their two core products is a major reason why Rita's has maintained its popularity over the years. Other popular menu items include thick milkshakes, Blendinis, and sundaes, all crafted with their delicious frozen custard.
The experience at Rita's is often tied to the season, with the biggest event of the year being the first day of spring. This is when Rita's locations, including the one in Media, celebrate by giving away free water ice to all customers. This tradition is a beloved rite of passage for many families and a clear signal that winter is over. It's an event that builds a strong sense of community and connection, turning a simple trip for a treat into a yearly celebration. This kind of community-focused approach is a key part of what makes Rita's a local institution.
While the quality of Rita's core products is widely celebrated, it's worth noting that customer experiences can sometimes vary. A few reviews have pointed out issues with portion sizes on certain items, such as sundaes, feeling that they do not match the price. Similarly, there have been occasional concerns about the quality of non-frozen items, like pretzels. It is always helpful for customers to be aware of these occasional discrepancies and to communicate any concerns to the staff, who are typically focused on customer satisfaction. Despite these occasional critiques, the overall consensus is that Rita's Italian Ice and Frozen Custard remains a reliable and delicious option for frozen desserts in the area.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1paid $8 for a large sundae, and got the worlds thinnest sundae — i wasn’t sure if they heard me wrong and i maybe ordered a small by accident, but… nope, this is what a large looks like at the rita’s in media. seeing as i could get an entire gallon of ice cream for less than that price but wanted to splurge on a favorite at rita’s, it’s pretty disappointing, and looking through the comments, i can see i’m not alone
July 19 · McKenzie JaniszSold me the hardest stuffed cheese pretzel ever, such a disappointment. Especially to have to wait in line in this unbearable heat. Mind as well have put a rock in the bag 🤦🏾♀️
June 25 · Aiyana MillerOrdered 2 large chocolate custard cones snd were served obviously 2 small custard, per your colorful advertisement posted on the soft serve machine, yet we were charged for 2 large servings. The young lady who served us claims this is what she has been instructed to do. Is your location falsely advertising? Has your employee been instructed to cheat your customers over serving size? She claimed there was nothing she could do about it, which sounded lame to us. Please reply.
April 27 · Thomas H. StackhouseThey only have one in all of Massachusetts, so I haven’t been to Rita’s in forever. Quality and service remain exceptional. You have to get both custard and Italian ice!!
August 25 · Craig CapelloI used to love Rita’s custard every summer. Unfortunately, this location has become an absolute joke when it comes to the portions. This is what a large custard looks like. To charge over $5 for a portion of this size is just flat out ridiculous. The portions have been getting smaller & smaller each year, but I cannot justify ever coming back after this. I would strongly recommend avoiding this location at all costs, spend your money elsewhere.
