Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard Introduce
For many residents of Philadelphia, the arrival of warm weather means it's time for a classic, refreshing treat, and for a large number of them, that means a trip to Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard. The location at 1901 Rhawn St has become a go-to spot for locals, offering a delightful escape from the city heat with its signature products. This particular Rita's, situated at the corner of Rhawn and Algon, is a familiar and beloved presence in the neighborhood, drawing in customers with its colorful menu and nostalgic flavors.
Rita's is a brand that holds a special place in the hearts of many Pennsylvanians, and this location lives up to the reputation. The core of their business is a simple yet perfect combination: flavorful Italian ice and rich, creamy frozen custard. The Italian ice is made fresh daily on-site, a fact that contributes to its vibrant taste and smooth texture. Customers can choose from a constantly rotating list of flavors, ensuring there's always something new and exciting to try. The frozen custard is a decadent, old-fashioned treat that provides a wonderful counterpoint to the lightness of the Italian ice.
One of the most popular items is the Gelati, Rita's signature layered treat that combines both Italian ice and frozen custard. One satisfied customer noted how much they "take the time to split my two flavors in half down the middle (vs. stacking)," a small detail that enhances the eating experience and shows a thoughtful approach to customer service. This kind of attention to detail and a willingness to accommodate customer requests contributes to the overall positive atmosphere. The store is also known for a clean environment and, on good days, efficient service. However, like any popular spot, wait times can be a "hit or miss," but for many, the quality of the treat is well worth the wait.
While the general sentiment is positive, with one customer even calling it the "Best ritas in my area," it's important to acknowledge that customer experiences can vary. A review highlighted a less-than-pleasant interaction with a staff member and an issue with a new menu item, where a customer was charged extra for jimmies that were shown in the advertisement. This type of feedback is crucial for both the business and potential customers. It shows that while the product itself is generally excellent, customer service can be inconsistent. The response from the employee, "I just work here," is a note of caution for patrons to be aware of potential service variations.
Despite occasional hiccups, the store's popularity is a testament to its quality products. Its menu extends beyond the basics, offering a variety of other items to suit any craving. From simple sundaes and shakes to their new Kool-Aid item, there's a wide selection. The fact that the store offers benches outside for customers to sit and enjoy their treats also adds to the community feel, making it a place to linger and enjoy a moment of happiness. This Rita's has become a familiar fixture at the corner of Rhawn and Algon, a reliable spot for a cool treat and a quick escape from the daily grind.
The Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard is conveniently located at 1901 Rhawn St, Philadelphia, PA 19111, USA, at the intersection with Algon Avenue. This is a very accessible location for residents of Northeast Philadelphia. The area is easily navigated by car, and while there is "no designated parking area," street parking is often available nearby. The shop's corner location makes it easy to find, and its visible storefront is a welcoming sight.
The store is designed for walk-up service, with a window for ordering. Benches on either side of the building provide a place for customers to sit and enjoy their treats, and other customers "tend to be conscious of distancing while waiting in line," which is a plus for those who prefer more space. This thoughtful design and customer behavior contribute to a positive and safe experience. The location's hours are generally consistent and designed to accommodate evening visits, making it a perfect spot for a post-dinner dessert run.

β 5β 4β 3β 2β 1This is usually my go-to Rita's and my interaction with the girl working wasn't as pleasant as usual. Also, be aware that the new Kool-aid item isn't all that great, especially when what you get is almost all custard, as you can see in the picture. In the advertisement, it shows it with jimmies, but when I was given mine, there were no jimmies, so I asked for the jimmies and she charged me another $1.07. I couldn't believe it, said I have to pay for the jimmies? when in the picture, it shows it with jimmies and girls' response was "I just work here". π€¦ββοΈThis is the Rita's on Rhawn and Algon.
June 24 Β· Nelson OrtizNice selection to choose from. Good service and the employees are polite. I like how they take the time to split my two flavors in half down the middle (vs. stacking). Area was clean. Wait times differ and can be a hit or miss. No designated parking area. There is a bench on either side of the building. Other customers tend to be conscious of distancing while waiting in line.
