If you're a New York resident or visitor seeking a truly unique and delicious experience, you need to add Spotted Duck Creamery to your must-visit list. Nestled in the picturesque countryside of Penn Yan, this isn't your average ice cream shop. It's a farm-to-table destination that has garnered a loyal following and even national recognition for its exceptional frozen custard.
Spotted Duck Creamery stands out by using a secret ingredient that gives their custard its signature richness and creamy texture: fresh duck eggs from their very own flock of Ancona ducks. This commitment to quality and local sourcing is evident in every bite, as they use a mix of certified organic ingredients and produce grown right on their farm. From freshly baked cookies and hand-rolled cones to fruit compotes and toppings, nearly everything is made from scratch. This dedication ensures a flavor and quality you simply won't find anywhere else.
The atmosphere is as much a part of the experience as the custard itself. You can enjoy your treat while surrounded by the very farm animals that contribute to the magic. It's a place where you can relax at a picnic table, watch the ducks roam, and truly appreciate the connection between the farm and your dessert. Spotted Duck is more than just a place to get a sweet treat; it's a celebration of local farming, fresh ingredients, and simple, wholesome goodness.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1If you're out road trippin', be sure to check them out! They serve rich , creamy custard made w duck eggs & locally sourced ingredients from around the finger lakes. July 09 · m muncyDelicious creamy icecream. We chose to do a flight of 4. You get a decent sample of icecream in each one. They mint chip has really mint in it. The cookies and cream with chocolate chip cookies was yummy. All flavors were so good that we cpuld not decide on which one we liked best. They also have lots of ducks, chickens and a peacock. The bathroom was super clean which is a big plus. There are multiple picnic tables in the yard so you can sit out and enjoy your icecream with nature.
July 20 · Mary UlmerAbsolutely delicious!! Such a cute little ice cream shop with interesting flavors. My favorite was the Fleur Bleu (blueberries and lavender). They also had dairy free options
April 27 · Jillian CampbellOn a winding drive between vineyard views and lakeside breezes, The Spotted Duck Creamery pops up like a sweet little secret on Route 54, just outside Penn Yan on Seneca Lake. It’s not flashy—just a tidy farmstand, a yard full of picnic tables, and a lot of love—but it scoops up some of the richest, creamiest frozen custard in the Finger Lakes. What makes it special? Duck eggs—from the farm itself. You can even see the ducks waddling around near the picnic tables while you eat. The custard is made on-site using eggs from the creamery’s own birds, resulting in a texture so smooth it’s almost unfair to regular ice cream. The whole setup radiates homespun magic—local ingredients, a laid-back farm vibe, and the kind of care you can taste in every bite.We went big (because how could we not?) with the Seneca Flight—eight flavors, plus one extra scoop to get every flavor—and promptly gave up on picking a favorite. Fleur Bleu (a dreamy blueberry-lavender), Wicked Chocolate, Toasted Vanilla, and Lemon Meringue Pie all fought hard for the top spot, but honestly, every single flavor brought something special to the scoop. As if that wasn’t enough, we also dove into the Cookie Monster Sundae: Real Cookies and Cream, Vanilla Crème, a chocolate chip cookie, hot fudge, and whipped cream stacked high like a dairy-based dream come true. It was as over-the-top as it was unforgettable—and not one bite was left behind. With its relaxed picnic seating and farm animals ambling about, The Spotted Duck is the kind of place where you can settle in, slow down, and just enjoy a seriously good treat under the open sky. It’s local, it’s loveable, and it’s one stop you absolutely shouldn’t skip on your next Finger Lakes wander.
May 07 · Jeney WiermanFirst visited 3 years ago and wasn’t too impressed with their frozen custard… well they have upped their game. The “Wicked Chocolate” melted in your mouth, “Real Cookies & Cream” was a huge step up from your average cookies and cream frozen dessert, “Vanilla Crème” was simple but noteworthy, and the “Fleur Bleue” [blueberry, lavender, & vanilla]was incredible. Happy to say that I will absolutely be returning to try more.Couldn’t pick a favorite flavor out of the 4 we tried, all were amazing.
