Taiyaki Chicago Introduce
For residents and visitors throughout Illinois, the culinary landscape of Chicago offers a diverse array of global flavors and unique dessert experiences. Among these, Taiyaki Chicago stands out as a charming and authentic destination, bringing a beloved Japanese street food directly to the heart of the city. Located at 2618 N Clark St, Chicago, IL 60614, USA, this specialty shop is dedicated to taiyaki, a traditional fish-shaped pastry, often filled with sweet ingredients and frequently paired with soft-serve ice cream. It's a delightful blend of warm, freshly baked goodness and cool, creamy indulgence, offering a dessert experience unlike any other. This article will provide an engaging and informative overview of Taiyaki Chicago, exploring its unique menu, convenient Lincoln Park location, and why it has become a cherished spot for locals seeking a taste of Japanese confectionery right here in Illinois.
Taiyaki is more than just a dessert; it's an experience rooted in Japanese culture, traditionally enjoyed as a snack at festivals and street stalls. The name itself comes from 'tai' (sea bream, a symbol of good luck and fortune in Japan) and 'yaki' (baked or grilled). Taiyaki Chicago masterfully replicates this authentic treat, crafting each fish-shaped pastry fresh to order. This commitment to freshness is consistently praised by customers, ensuring that every taiyaki you receive is warm, tender, and perfectly baked. The shop then elevates this traditional pastry by pairing it with a swirl of soft-serve ice cream, creating a visually appealing and incredibly delicious combination that's both comforting and refreshing.
What truly sets Taiyaki Chicago apart is its adventurous approach to fillings and soft-serve flavors. While traditional taiyaki is often filled with red bean paste, this Chicago establishment offers a variety of delightful options, including classic red bean, creamy custard, and the increasingly popular ube. Complementing these fillings is an impressive selection of soft-serve ice cream, notably their highly-regarded matcha soft serve, which captures the earthy, slightly bitter notes of green tea beautifully. This blend of traditional Japanese flavors with modern twists creates a compelling reason for any Illinois local to explore Taiyaki Chicago, whether they are familiar with taiyaki or discovering this unique dessert for the very first time.

---Taiyaki Chicago specializes in a unique blend of traditional Japanese taiyaki with contemporary soft-serve ice cream and other popular Asian beverages. Their core services and offerings include:
Freshly Made Taiyaki: Taiyaki are fish-shaped pastries made from a pancake or waffle-like batter, cooked in a special molded iron. They are made fresh to order, ensuring a warm and delicious exterior. Traditional fillings include red bean paste (anko), and they also offer modern favorites like ube and custard. Customers noted that the taiyaki were "filled pretty well" and "all delicious."
Soft Serve Ice Cream: A popular way to enjoy taiyaki is by pairing it with soft-serve ice cream. Taiyaki Chicago offers various soft-serve flavors, notably their "really good" matcha soft serve. Other popular flavors often include vanilla, chocolate, and seasonal specials. The soft serve can be served in a cup or, more famously, directly atop a taiyaki.
Taiyaki Ice Cream Cones/Sundaes: This combines the warm, fresh taiyaki with a swirl of soft serve on top, creating a visually appealing and texturally contrasting dessert. Customers have enjoyed this combination, stating, "We got the matcha soft serve in a custard filled taiyaki. The flavors were all really good."
Bubble Tea / Milk Tea: They offer a selection of popular Asian beverages, including "taro milk tea with boba," which was noted as "very good." This provides a refreshing counterpoint to the sweet desserts and caters to a broader range of beverage preferences.
Customization: Customers can often choose their taiyaki filling and soft-serve flavor, allowing for personalized dessert combinations. While one review mentioned forgetting to ask about sugar levels for the milk tea, it implies a level of customization might be possible for beverages as well.
Taiyaki Chicago distinguishes itself with several key features and highlights that contribute to its unique appeal and popularity among locals in Illinois.
Authentic and Fresh Taiyaki: The primary highlight is their dedication to making taiyaki "fresh to order." This commitment ensures that customers receive warm, delicious fish-shaped pastries that are perfectly textured and filled. The availability of traditional fillings like red bean alongside modern options like ube and custard caters to both purists and those seeking new flavors.
High-Quality Soft Serve: Their soft-serve ice cream, particularly the "really good" matcha soft serve, is a significant draw. The combination of the warm taiyaki with cool, creamy soft serve creates a delightful sensory experience that's both texturally interesting and flavorful.
Unique Dessert Combination: The concept of serving soft-serve ice cream directly on top of a taiyaki is visually distinctive and offers a fun, interactive way to enjoy dessert. This creative pairing makes for an excellent photo opportunity and a memorable treat.
Delicious Flavor Combinations: Customers consistently praise the taste, with combinations like "matcha soft serve in a custard filled taiyaki" receiving high marks for their flavor profile. The "ube, red bean, and custard" taiyaki fillings were all described as "delicious."
Popular Bubble Tea Selection: Beyond taiyaki and ice cream, their inclusion of popular bubble tea options like "taro milk tea with boba" adds another layer to their menu, appealing to a broader audience looking for refreshing beverages.
Portion Size: Despite some feedback about taiyaki filling quantity, the overall "portion size was great" for the combined taiyaki and soft serve, indicating satisfying value for the price.
Memorable Experience: For many, a visit to Taiyaki Chicago offers an opportunity to "try something new" and experience a unique dessert not widely available, making it a memorable stop in Chicago's culinary scene.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Delicious dessert! The taiyaki were made fresh to order and were filled pretty well. We got ube, red bean, and custard and they were all delicious! The taro milk tea with boba was very good, but a little on the sweet side (we forgot to ask to change the sugar level, so we aren’t sure if they’re able to).I would love to try the ice cream next time we come back.
July 20 · Via CWe got the matcha soft serve in a custard filled taiyaki. The flavors were all really good but we felt the taiyaki could’ve been filled a bit more. But the portion size was great and we really enjoyed the matcha soft serve!
May 29 · Anna BrownAn absolute treat!! Pretty average price for an ice cream cone, but this one’s much quirkier and yummier. I recommend the matcha soft serve w custard filling
April 12 · Alex MartinezFood: The soft serve matcha ice cream was good! I do wish that they put more toppings on the ice cream and added it to the taiyaki with the filling. The red bean filling was so delicious 😋.Service: I did not get the server's name but they were very inviting and cordial.Atmosphere: chill ambiance and the space was clean!
November 15 · Ashonda Walkerstumbled upon this soft serve place last year and it’s soo good and affordable!! What’s even better is that it’s Dairy Free!! My favorite is their matcha with crushed oreos and my bf is obsessed with their chocolate shake with oreos. We tried the taiyaki but didn’t love the texture but that’s just us (more on the doughy side) but love everything else!!
