Tastee Zone Introduce
For residents of Maryland, particularly those in Catonsville and the surrounding Baltimore County area, local ice cream shops often hold a special place in community traditions. Tastee Zone, located at 1715 Edmondson Ave, Catonsville, MD 21228, USA, has historically been recognized as a long-time destination for various frozen treats. This article aims to provide a clear, engaging, and informative overview of Tastee Zone from the perspective of local Maryland users, detailing its offerings, accessibility, and critically, recent customer experiences that shed light on its current operational state.
Tastee Zone has been a part of the Catonsville landscape for many years, serving as a go-to spot for soft serve, snowballs, sundaes, and more. While older reviews might paint a picture of a beloved neighborhood staple, recent customer feedback presents a more complex and concerning view. It's crucial for local patrons to have access to factual, up-to-date information to make informed decisions about where to spend their money and their time, especially in the context of supporting local businesses.
Our aim is to provide a balanced account, drawing directly from the most recent customer reviews, which highlight significant issues regarding both product quality and customer service. This detailed overview will cover everything from their menu items to their physical location and contact information. For Marylanders considering a visit to Tastee Zone, this guide will help set realistic expectations and offer a candid look at what current patrons are experiencing.
Tastee Zone is situated at 1715 Edmondson Ave, Catonsville, MD 21228, USA. Edmondson Avenue is a significant thoroughfare in Catonsville, a community in Baltimore County, Maryland, known for its suburban feel and local businesses. This address places the ice cream shop in a relatively accessible location within the area.
The shop is located in what appears to be a commercial strip or area with "lots of foot traffic," as indicated by a description of a nearby available rental space. Being on Edmondson Avenue, a main road, generally ensures good visibility and straightforward navigation for customers driving to the location. Parking availability would typically be street parking or a small lot associated with the commercial block. Its presence in "Catonsville Junction" also suggests it's part of a local hub, potentially near other businesses.
For residents of Catonsville and the surrounding communities, the location is generally convenient for a quick stop to grab a treat. Local public transportation, such as bus stops, might also be in the vicinity, potentially offering access for those without personal vehicles. However, it's worth noting that customer reviews mention driving to the location, implying that for some, it's not simply a walk-up spot but a deliberate destination. The ease of access is a factor for any local business, and Tastee Zone's positioning on a main thoroughfare serves this purpose.
Soft Serve Ice Cream: Tastee Zone is known for its soft serve, with "Turkey Hill soft serve" being mentioned by some. However, a very recent review indicated the ice cream tasted "bitter," raising concerns about quality.
Cones: Ice cream is served in cones. A recent customer review explicitly mentioned that the cones were "STALE."
Sundaes: The shop traditionally offers sundaes, allowing customers to add various toppings to their ice cream.
Snowballs: Tastee Zone also provides snowballs, a popular Maryland frozen treat consisting of shaved ice with flavored syrups.
Milkshakes: Menu information from external sources indicates they offer milkshakes made with various snowball flavors or traditional chocolate or vanilla, topped with whipped cream.
Specialty Flavors: Past customer reviews mention specific flavors like "Orange ice cream" which was "back" and much loved by customers, suggesting rotating or seasonal specialty options.
Pre-packaged Novelties (Potential): While not directly confirmed by recent reviews, general information about similar shops suggests they might offer pre-packaged ice cream sandwiches and popsicles.
Ice Cream Cakes (Potential): Some information indicates the possibility of custom ice cream cakes, made with signature flavors, suitable for special occasions. This would need to be verified with the store directly.
Long-Standing Local Presence: Tastee Zone has been a destination for frozen treats in Catonsville for a "long time," indicating its historical roots in the community.
Variety of Frozen Treats: The shop offers a range of classic frozen treats, including soft serve, snowballs, sundaes, and milkshakes, catering to different preferences for cold desserts.
Orange Ice Cream (Historically): The specific mention of "Orange ice cream" being a beloved flavor that brought customers back indicates a past highlight and a potential draw for those who enjoy this specific offering.
Potential for Nostalgia: For customers who have visited the shop over many years, there's an element of nostalgia associated with its long-standing presence in Catonsville.
It is critical to note that recent customer reviews highlight significant negative features that impact the overall experience:
Poor Customer Service: Multiple recent reviews report "negative attitude," "smartass, sarcastic, rude response," and a general dismissiveness from staff, particularly an "older lady." Customers felt unacknowledged and interrupted.
Questionable Product Quality: Recent feedback includes "cones were STALE" and "ice cream tasted bitter." One customer even suggested the "health department needs to test their machines for bacteria."
High Prices/Poor Value: Customers describe prices as "exorbitant" and "absolutely not worth the mediocre drinks/food," indicating a perception of poor value for money.
Inconsistent Quality Control: A specific complaint about a "Gelati" having "hardly enough custard at the bottom" points to inconsistency in product preparation.
Perceived Decline in Quality: Reviewers explicitly state that "The quality previously mentioned in older reviews no longer exists" and advise people to "Don't stop, keep driving pass it."

Tastee Zone, located at 1715 Edmondson Ave in Catonsville, MD, historically has been a recognized local ice cream destination in the Maryland region. While its long-standing presence might suggest suitability for locals, recent and consistent customer feedback paints a concerning picture that significantly impacts its appeal. For Marylanders in the Catonsville area, it's crucial to approach this establishment with tempered expectations, particularly given the detailed reviews regarding product quality and customer service.
The nominal suitability for locals might stem from its variety of traditional frozen treats like soft serve, snowballs, sundaes, and milkshakes, which cater to common ice cream cravings. Its location on Edmondson Avenue provides straightforward accessibility within Catonsville, making it an easy drive for those in nearby neighborhoods. For some, there might be a lingering sense of nostalgia for "past glory" or specific seasonal offerings like "Orange ice cream" that once drew loyal patrons.
However, the overwhelming consensus from recent customer reviews raises significant red flags that challenge its current suitability. Repeated complaints about "negative attitude," "smartass, sarcastic, rude response," and general dismissiveness from staff, particularly an "older lady," are deeply troubling. Instances where a child was "talked down to" are unacceptable and demonstrate a severe lapse in basic customer service. Such behavior creates an unwelcoming environment that can deter even the most loyal customers, as one long-time patron stated, "I will no longer visit this place."
Furthermore, direct criticisms regarding product quality, such as "STALE" cones and "bitter" tasting ice cream, along with suggestions for health department inspection, are grave concerns. The perception that "The quality previously mentioned in older reviews no longer exists" indicates a significant decline from past standards. When combined with reports of "exorbitant prices" that are "absolutely not worth the mediocre drinks/food," the value proposition becomes highly questionable for consumers already "struggling in this economy."
In conclusion, while Tastee Zone in Catonsville has a history as a local ice cream spot, the recent and consistent negative reviews regarding poor customer service, declining product quality, and high prices make it difficult to recommend without significant caveats. Locals seeking a pleasant and satisfying ice cream experience are explicitly advised by some former patrons to "Don't stop, keep driving pass it." This suggests that, despite its location and traditional offerings, the current state of operations may not meet the expectations of Maryland residents looking for quality and respectful service from their local businesses.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Today is the first day I visited Tastee Zone. My daughter and I thought the woman at the counter was very strange. We repeatedly asked to see the size and price of the cones and she simply made height gestures with her hands. She never mentioned the cost. The cones were STALE and the ice cream tasted bitter. Perhaps the health department needs to test their machines for bacteria. It was truly an awful experience. Stores like this live off their past glory. The quality previously mentioned in older reviews no longer exists. These people need to stop selling old food for such exorbitant prices. Everyone is struggling in this economy. Merchants like this should be inspected more frequently. Don't fall for the fake google reviews. This place is horrible. Don't stop, keep driving pass it.
July 06 · DDAIf I could give negative stars I would. Been coming to Tastee Zone for over 10yrs. For the most part it has been great. But, now that has now officially changed. I will longer visit this place. If you read other reviews, they mention " older lady" and her negative attitude. If you look even further back ( 3 yrs ago), reviews state same thing. At what point will someone decide to do something about this behavior? When with her attitude get better? For past few months we have frequent TZ because Orange ice cream is back. Our 11 yr old Daughter LOVES it and so do we. As a parent we can learn how to blow off negative attitudes, poor customer service and so on. BUT, when your child asks a very simple question and this "older lady" answer her with a smartass, sarcastic, rude response. UNACCEPTABLE!!!! No child should be talked down to.Hopefully, if anyone experiences this poor service will put a review out. Good luck
June 05 · Lion KingIts a shame. Used to love going to Tastee Zone. But, sorry no more. Just tired of being talked to like I'm a P.O.S! For the most part the younger employees are GREAT, friendly, kind and welcoming. But the older lady that works there needs to RETIRE. She is the reason I will no longer bring my family to Tastee Zone.
June 11 · Lion KingI went there a couple days ago at night and the lady cashier was rude. I ordered the ice cream cookie sandwich and the cookie was hard not soft. My wife got the ice cream nachos and the sprinkles were old and soft and the wafers also were old. Honestly Wouldn’t recommend going here.
April 21 · Yasser SabirFruit Punch Snoball was so tasty! Topped with marshmallow for that extra savory scoop of summer deliciousness.Staff is super friendly and courteous. Great value for money.
