The Original Rainbow Cone - Pleasant Prairie Introduce
The Original Rainbow Cone has brought a beloved Chicago tradition to the heart of Wisconsin, establishing a presence in Pleasant Prairie that has quickly become a favorite for locals. This ice cream shop is more than just a place to get a scoop; it's an experience built on a nearly century-old legacy. Famous for its unique five-flavor cone, which features artfully sliced layers of chocolate, strawberry, Palmer House, pistachio, and orange sherbet, it offers a visually stunning and delicious treat that is unlike anything else. The Pleasant Prairie location is a dual-concept venue, sharing space with the well-known Buona, making it the perfect destination for a complete meal followed by a memorable dessert. This synergy between two iconic brands provides a convenient and satisfying outing for families and individuals. The Original Rainbow Cone’s commitment to its classic recipe, which slices rather than scoops the ice cream, ensures a distinct texture and taste in every bite. This unique method is a hallmark of the brand and part of what makes it a must-try for both long-time fans and newcomers. The friendly service and clean, modern facility contribute to a positive overall impression, as noted by customers who appreciate the convenience and quality. While some may find the pricing reflects the experience, many agree that the uniqueness of the offering makes it a worthwhile indulgence. For those in the Wisconsin region who have heard of this famous treat from south of the border, the Pleasant Prairie location offers a convenient way to try a piece of Chicago history without the long drive. It’s a destination that perfectly blends tradition with modern convenience, making it a valuable addition to the local culinary scene and a special spot for a sweet treat.
The concept behind The Original Rainbow Cone is rooted in the simple idea that life is too short for just one flavor. The founder, "Grandpa Joe" Sapp, wasn't satisfied with a single-flavor cone, so he stacked five distinct and complementary flavors together to create a harmonious blend of tastes. The five classic flavors—chocolate, strawberry, Palmer House (vanilla with cherries and walnuts), pistachio, and orange sherbet—are still sliced, not scooped, and served in the same artful manner today. This meticulous process ensures that each flavor is tasted individually and as part of the overall combination, making every bite a different experience. The location's partnership with Buona provides a unique advantage, as customers can enjoy a full meal and then easily get a dessert without having to travel to another location. This convenience is a significant draw, and as one reviewer noted, it saves them a long drive to other locations. The facility is new and clean, providing a pleasant environment for customers to enjoy their treats. While some customers have noted a perceived lack of welcoming enthusiasm from the staff, the overall consensus is that the service is helpful and efficient, getting the job done. It is clear that the focus is on providing a high-quality product in a fast-casual setting. The pricing, while considered a bit high by some, is generally viewed as an acceptable trade-off for the "experience" and the unique nature of the product. The Original Rainbow Cone also offers a variety of other items, including shakes, sundaes, and ice cream cakes, which showcase their classic flavor combinations in different formats. This diversification of the menu ensures that there's an option for everyone, whether they want a traditional cone or a larger treat to share. The brand's commitment to its heritage, combined with its strategic and convenient location, makes it a notable and enjoyable destination for anyone in the area seeking a special frozen dessert.
The Original Rainbow Cone is located at 7523 115th Ave, Pleasant Prairie, WI 53158, USA. This location is particularly strategic as it is situated just a short distance from the Illinois border, making it a convenient stop for both Wisconsin residents and those traveling north from Illinois. The shop shares a building with Buona, which is a significant factor in its accessibility and appeal. This dual-concept location offers ample parking and is situated in a commercial area that is easy to access from major roads. For locals, its position in Pleasant Prairie makes it a quick and easy drive for a special treat. The convenience of not having to make a long journey to Chicago or other suburban locations to get this iconic dessert is a major benefit. The location is well-known and easy to navigate to, whether you are using a GPS or simply following local directions. While the Rainbow Cone side of the building may have limited indoor seating, there is a decent amount of outdoor seating available for customers who want to enjoy their treats on-site. The ability to grab a delicious Italian beef sandwich from Buona and then seamlessly transition to a Rainbow Cone for dessert in the same building is a major draw that enhances the overall convenience and experience for visitors. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1A fun little treat. There is no real seating area for the rainbow cone side. They have a decent amount of outdoor seating. It's a little pricey, but you're paying for an experience, I guess. Staff was helpful, but I got the impression that our questions were not completely welcome. The ice cream itself did not taste that different from normal ice creameries. If you're going here, try a special creation to make the price worth it.
September 27 · Drew RThis past April marked the very 1st time trying a TORC location along with the very 1st visit to this Buona location.I love the fact that after eating some scrumptious grub at Buona that you don't have to travel far for dessert. The ice cream is really good here and it's a neat idea the way the ice cream on a cone is served depending on the flavor(s)Good prices with a decent selection of flavors in a clean new facility with friendly customer service.A great companion to Buona and I'm glad both places are a fair driving distance from my house in Beach Park just a few short miles south of the border in Lake County. Before this venue opened, if we were in the mood for Buona/TORC it was either trek all the way out to Lakemoor or Kildeer, sheesh! Hope this place stays in business for decades to come.
October 02 · Deplorable RobIce cream is very flavorful. There are two sizes, junior and original. I got the junior.
May 28 · Diane WilczenskiWe’ve had good experiences here a couple of times and like rainbow cone overall. I hadn’t had it prior but the original is pretty good, cosmic birthday is awesome, and they have a good root beer float as well. The original is a strange combination when you hear the different flavors I think, but somehow it works and is really good. The cosmic birthday is an awesome combination. I thought it sounded good and I asked the girl working her thoughts on it, she said it was really popular and then asked if I wanted to try a sample of the flavors together. It was very good and I got a waffle cone version of it. We’ll be back because service has always been quick and the ice cream is good. The only downside is that you can’t get it in the drive thru, but it’s worth the trip inside and they even have a few stools by the window you can sit at and enjoy your ice cream. We like it!
May 27 · WI BikerMy boyfriend and I went in for a cosmic birthday quart and a pistachio pint yesterday. We were greeted promptly by a nice young man, our order taken accurately and politely, and our ice cream was packaged up beautifully - no drips or spills or smears!!! This place was great and clean and the service was really excellent!
