This place is Trecaso's Mary Coyle Fine Italian Cuisine & Ice Cream, a local institution with a rich history that dates back to 1937. It is a one-of-a-kind destination that marries the legacy of Mary Coyle's famous ice cream with the authentic Italian recipes of the Trecaso family. This blend of traditions creates an experience that is both nostalgic and delicious, making it a true gem in the heart of Akron. For many locals, it is a place filled with personal history, a spot they have been visiting for years to get their favorite treats. The establishment is a testament to the enduring appeal of quality food and a genuine sense of community. Its reputation is built on a foundation of homemade recipes and a commitment to maintaining the high standards set by its founders. Trecaso’s Mary Coyle offers a dining experience unlike any other, where you can enjoy a hearty Italian meal and then cap it off with some of the best ice cream you've ever had. This duality is a major part of its charm and what makes it a must-visit destination for anyone in the Akron area. It is a place that feels deeply rooted in its location, a cornerstone of local culture and culinary tradition.
The establishment's history is a significant part of its identity. Originally a small lunch counter, Mary Coyle grew into a beloved institution before being purchased by Michael Trecaso in 1987. Having worked there as a teenager, Trecaso brought with him his family's Italian recipes, eventually merging his Italian restaurant with the Mary Coyle location. This pivotal moment in 1996 created the unique combination that exists today. This long and storied past, combined with a dedication to making fresh ice cream daily, sets Trecaso’s Mary Coyle apart from other eateries. The menu is a delightful journey through Italian classics and old-fashioned ice cream creations. While the Italian food, including their award-winning pizza and spaghetti, receives a lot of praise, the ice cream is an undeniable highlight. Customers have raved about specific flavors, such as the "BEST coffee-flavored ice cream we’ve ever had," which speaks to the quality and unique taste of their homemade products. However, the customer experience can sometimes be mixed. While some patrons have had fantastic experiences filled with history from the owner, others have reported negative interactions and perceived rudeness, particularly in relation to dining-in policies with outside food. It's clear that the establishment has a distinct and traditional approach to its operations. Despite some polarizing feedback, the quality of the ice cream and the historical significance of the place remain major draws for many in the community who cherish its unique character and flavor.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1My husband and I came looking for a place to specifically get coffee-flavored ice cream and I’m so glad we found this little gem! We got lots of history from the owner and the BEST coffee-flavored ice cream we’ve ever had!!! This place may not be around for much longer so get some while this place is still here!
June 10 · Andrisell PancamoI was taken aback by the rude behavior and attitude at this location, the owner asked me to leave due to having a Chipotle bag, while I was also a paying customer who purchased their ice cream, which seemed unreasonable to me. He did not like my presence at his location
July 09 · BRITTNEY KELKERAmazing Ice Cream 🍨Be sure to follow the rules if you want a great experience.Read the menu before you go inside. No dogs on the patio. No strollers inside. And wait outside for him to call your name. Also, do not park in the parking lot unlessyou are a paying customer. We got the fresh coffee ice cream and it was glorious.
June 10 · Cody PancamoI cannot wait until this establishment closes. Beyond awful service 25 years ago and this obviously still stands to be true to this day. This man has no business running a business. It’s neat how my last review simply disappeared. Hands down the rudest service I’ve EVER encountered. Do better. Be better.
