UDairy Creamery Café Introduce
For those in Delaware seeking a truly unique and locally impactful sweet treat, the UDairy Creamery Café in Newark offers an experience unlike any other. Nestled on the bustling East Main Street, this isn't just an ordinary ice cream shop; it's a living laboratory and a testament to the University of Delaware's commitment to agricultural education and sustainable practices. What sets UDairy Creamery apart is its "cow to cone" philosophy, where the ice cream you enjoy is made from milk produced by cows right on the University's own farm.
The UDairy Creamery Café embodies a unique blend of education, entrepreneurship, and deliciousness. As part of the University of Delaware's College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, it provides invaluable hands-on experience for UD students who are involved in every aspect of ice cream production and sales. From milking the cows at the university farm to developing new flavors and serving customers at the café, students gain practical knowledge in dairy production, food science, business management, and sustainability. This direct connection to the source ensures an incredibly fresh product, distinguishing UDairy Creamery from conventional ice cream parlors. While their primary focus is indeed on crafting high-quality ice cream with unique and classic flavors, the café also offers a limited menu of coffee drinks and light fare, providing a welcoming space for both quick visits and longer study sessions. This integration of academic learning with a beloved consumer product makes every scoop a contribution to student education and agricultural innovation in Delaware.
The UDairy Creamery Café is conveniently located at 83 E Main St, Newark, DE 19711, USA. This prime address places it right in the heart of downtown Newark, a vibrant and active area that serves as both a college town for the University of Delaware and a bustling commercial hub for residents of northern Delaware. Its position on East Main Street makes it highly accessible and a central point for both students and the wider community.
For those traveling by car, East Main Street is a main artery in Newark, connecting to other significant roads in the area and providing relatively easy access from various parts of Delaware and even neighboring states like Maryland and Pennsylvania. Parking in downtown Newark can sometimes be a consideration; however, the UDairy Creamery Café offers specific parking options. During business hours (Monday to Friday), there are "15-minute" spots directly across the road from the front door, ideal for quick pick-ups. For longer visits, surrounding lots are available, which are typically permitted lots during business hours but can be paid for via the Passport App for extended stays. On nights and weekends, additional parking is often available next to their walk-up window or in front of the nearby ice arena. This flexibility in parking makes it convenient for customers arriving by vehicle.
As a part of the University of Delaware campus, the café is also highly accessible to pedestrians, particularly students living or attending classes nearby. Newark's downtown area is very walkable, making it easy to stroll to the Creamery Café from many points within the borough. Public transportation, primarily DART First State bus routes, also serves the Newark area, providing connectivity for those relying on transit. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Udairy makes their own I scream from their own cows! I like their chocolate. Their apple ice cream is seasonal… it was not good lol. I didn’t like the dry chunks of whatever it was in the apple ice cream.
December 18 · YoAshaIt's a nice plave to study and the student workers are nice. Aside from the ice cream, the food is very much ... okay. Overpriced for food that is often bland, stale, and cheap in general. Ordered an overpriced (~6ish dollars) cold brew coffee and literally got a half-filled cold cup of coffee no ice? Also paid $3 for a rock hard brownie. I'll stick to ice cream. Also no mat at the front entrance which creates a slipping hazard in wet and cold weather.
January 21 · JessicaI go here for great tasting ice cream....they have I believe 2 locations. Not sure if the one in Wilmington Market st. Is still in operation. You can also purchase certain ice in to go containers.
June 29 · Rosemary DavisGreat ice cream. Did a “flight” of four different flavors. Fair price. ( the book store beside is very very expensive)
December 22 · Jingxu ZhengThis place is disgusting. There’s roaches, fruit flies, mold on the food and just a lack of cleanliness throughout. The food is just old rebranded BJ’s/Costco goods, and is NOT fresh (or good). I do work in the seating area and I once watched a women return 2 wraps in a row because they had mold on the inside. I have no idea how they make such bad coffee either, especially when they allegedly use little goat beans. The manager is clearly apathetic to this place’s image and quality. If you go here, avoid everything except the ice cream.Edit: I guess the response proves my point about the owner not caring since they claim it is a rumor, rather than asking for details about my experiences.
