Van Leeuwen's reputation is founded on its core philosophy: to make good ice cream, from good ingredients, that makes you feel good. The brand, which started from a yellow truck in New York City, has brought this mission to D.C. with great success. The ice cream itself is celebrated for being "truly great," with a richness and creaminess that is a hallmark of their product. Customers have praised the quality of the flavors, noting how even simple choices like dark chocolate brownie or mango sorbet are "absolutely delicious" and "perfectly balanced." The shop also receives high marks for its staff, who are described as friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Reviewers appreciate the staff's willingness to explain the menu and offer samples, making the decision-making process a fun part of the visit. This personal touch and genuine enthusiasm create a positive and inviting atmosphere that encourages customers to linger and enjoy their treat. The shop's aesthetics, often described as "cute," complement the overall experience, providing a pleasant backdrop for a delicious scoop. The fact that the quality of the ice cream is so high that a customer who first discovered it at a grocery store was compelled to seek out the physical shop speaks volumes about the brand's appeal and the loyalty it inspires. This Van Leeuwen location is a place where every scoop feels like a little bit of luxury, and where the experience is as enjoyable as the dessert itself.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I first tasted it at the grocery market and it was so delicious that I searched for it on Instagram and followed it. I thought I should go to the store in New York since there is one. I was so happy to see the store today. The friendly staff explained the menu and sampled it. I chose my favorite dark cherry and white chocolate raspberry ice cream. It was so delicious. I have to go back next time.
April 16 · Dessert Lover (bbangjangi)Cute place, friendly service, and truly great ice cream! I had one scoop of dark chocolate brownie, and my husband had the mango sorbet — both were absolutely delicious. Definitely worth the calories and the experience!
July 18 · Raissa NivoloniVisited Van Leeuwen's for the first time on Thursday, July 17th. We went in the early evening and there was only one party of 6 in front of us, so it wasn't much of a wait. I loved the yellow walls, the art on the wall, and their story they had posted. The staff was very friendly and let me try multiple things so I could make the best decision. I settled on sweet corn and blueberry jam in a waffle cone. I ordered one scoop and that was plenty for me. I ate dinner an hour before so it was a good size for dessert. The flavor of the ice cream and the cone were perfect. 10/10 recommend. My partner ordered two scoops of the mango sorbet. I didn't like the tartness of it, but she thoroughly enjoyed it. There is not much seating inside but we were able to find some stools to sit on. It was way too hot to sit outside and I didn’t even see the seating out. I hear they have many locations. If you have a chance go check them out, it is delicious ice cream and vibes.
July 18 · Karina PacchioniVisited Saturday after lunch and the place was bustling but the staff did such a great job! We tried a few of the flavors and overall was delicious :)- Turtle Treat Sundae (praline butter cake ice cream, salted caramel sauce, honey almonds and chocolate curls). This was SOOO good! The sweetness is well balanced by the salted caramel and the texture of the nuts/choco curls made it even better! Good to share between 2-3 people- Mango sticky rice + Vanilla Bean (the vanilla bean was so rich and creamy. I will definitely come back to get this again. The mango sticky rice was not bad, less fruity and more creamy flavors coming through. I think I was hoping for more fruit flavors but definitely tasted like mango sticky rice.
April 13 · Asma KhanMy first time visiting in DC and decided to stop in for a sweet cold treat. The customer service I received from both Chloe and Amani was exceptional. The honeycomb flavor was beyond superb whenever visiting again I’ll definitely be planning another visit!!
