What truly sets this location apart is its deep connection to the community and its history. This store is independently owned and operated by Susan Medd, whose family has a long and storied history with the Dairy Queen brand. The Medds are one of Dairy Queen's first families, with Susan being a third-generation DQ owner. This local ownership adds a personal touch to the experience, making it more than just a chain franchise; it feels like a genuine local business. This family history is even visible in the store, where patrons can see the patent for the Blizzard machine, a machine that was invented and patented by Sue's father, Ron, and her uncles, Ralph and Dick Medd. This unique feature serves as a proud reminder of the store's inventive heritage and deep Iowa roots. It's a connection that you won't find at every Dairy Queen, and it gives the Bettendorf location a special character that locals can appreciate and celebrate. This rich backstory contributes to the feeling that you are not just a customer, but part of a larger, sweet tradition.
The atmosphere at this Dairy Queen is another key component of its appeal. As noted by one customer, the staff are generally friendly and helpful, contributing to a pleasant experience. While one review mentioned an uncomfortable dynamic with a manager, the overall sentiment is that the employees are dedicated to providing good service. This focus on customer experience is especially important in a family-oriented town like Bettendorf, where a trip for ice cream is often a special occasion for children. The staff's willingness to help, combined with the classic, comforting environment, makes every visit a positive one. The fact that the store has been serving the community since 1977 under the same family’s ownership speaks volumes about its commitment to its customers. The continuity of this family business provides a stable, welcoming presence that has become a fixture in the lives of many Bettendorf residents.

- Ice Cream and Cones: A staple of any Dairy Queen, this location offers a wide variety of ice cream cones. Customers particularly love the fact that there are sizing options available, making it possible for even toddlers to enjoy a cone without it being "ridiculously too much for him." This attention to different portion needs is a great feature for families.

Patrons can choose from an extensive list of flavors, including fan favorites like Oreo, Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, and many others, all blended with the world-famous soft serve.
- Dilly Bars and Buster Bars: The classic Dilly Bars are a major draw, and customers love taking them home in multi-packs. The store also offers Buster Bars, which are a delightful combination of soft serve, fudge, and peanuts dipped in a chocolatey coating. Both are perfect for a classic, handheld frozen treat.
- Other Classic Treats: The menu also includes a variety of other classic Dairy Queen desserts, such as sundaes, shakes, and malts, giving customers plenty of options to satisfy their sweet tooth.
- Hot Dogs and BBQ Beef Sandwiches: While not a full Grill & Chill location, this store does offer a limited food menu. Customers can grab a hot dog with a steamed bun, or a BBQ beef sandwich. This makes it a great spot for a quick lunch or dinner, followed by a delicious dessert.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Love taking the kids to Dairy Queen for Dilly Bars and ice cream cones. I really like the sizing options so my toddler can also enjoy a cone without it being ridiculously too much for him.
May 31 · Zana SwitzerI stopped by for some ice cream, and it was really good! The staff were friendly and helpful overall. However, one person—possibly a manager came across as quite rude to the other employees, frequently bossing them around in a way that made the atmosphere a bit uncomfortable. I definitely enjoyed the food, but the dynamic among the staff was a bit off-putting.
May 17 · rick huckleWent there with my wife and 5 kids on the 4th of July. Place was packed with people. Excellent customer service, surprisingly timely service with the amount of customers in the small lobby, and everyone in my family enjoyed their treat!!
July 06 · Nathan GravesWeird service!! I ordered a cookie dough blizzard and a man with a long ponytail was rude while taking my order. When I got my blizzard it was barely filled and was also barely blended???
June 12 · Alyssa MGoing through drive thru sucks, honestly. The placement of the speaker makes it hard to hear. It's a bit of a tight squeeze with multiple cars but worth it. I love Dairy Queen ice cream. I'm from the midwest but live in NYC, In NYC it doesnt taste the same as in the midwest or I just enjoy it more in the midwest 😊The staff was nice yet slow but let's be real. All businesses are slow now a days , thanks to covid-19. I did enjoy the caramel apple sundae . If you like candy apples, GET IT.
