Firstly, the "homemade ice cream" is a significant draw, crafted with fresh dairy from their own farm. This farm-to-table (or rather, farm-to-cone) approach ensures a quality and freshness that is hard to match elsewhere. When you enjoy a scoop at Fair Oaks, you're not just tasting delicious ice cream; you're tasting the product of sustainable, local farming. Moreover, the overall ambiance of the property as "beautiful and relaxing" provides a perfect escape from daily routines. It's a place where locals can unwind, enjoy the scenic beauty, and partake in a variety of activities, from exploring the shops with their "great selection of cheese" to planning a longer stay at their "beautiful hotel." This versatility ensures that Fair Oaks can be a quick stop for an ice cream fix or a multi-day family adventure, catering to different needs and desires.
While a single customer experience noted a less-than-friendly interaction with one employee, the overwhelming sentiment from many visitors, including those who make it a regular stop on their travels, emphasizes the positive and unique aspects of Fair Oaks. The innovative use of "Cow Poo" to power their buses also highlights a progressive and sustainable approach that many environmentally conscious Hoosiers will appreciate.
In conclusion, Fair Oaks is more than an ice cream shop; it's a testament to Indiana's agricultural heritage and a forward-thinking model of agritourism. Its delicious homemade ice cream, coupled with its educational and recreational offerings, makes it a truly suitable and enriching destination for all Indiana locals. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We LOVE the food here as well as the adorable shops. Our son moved to Chicago for a job 4 years ago and we stop at Fair Oaks every time we go visit him. We are planning a visit to stay for a couple of nights at their beautiful hotel and do some of their activities but so far we've only been to the restaurant and the shops. The property is so beautiful and relaxing and we love that their buses are powered by Cow Poo!
June 25 · Brandie BlakeThey have a great selection of cheese. They have homemade ice cream. It's a busy little place. The young girl was not very friendly, remember that service with a smile and small chat go a long way!
July 13 · Milly AceStopped to get gas and a delicious snack. Very busy. Hard to get a pump, especially one that works. They defintely need to keep their pumps at 100% way too busy to have multiple pumps down, other than that the snacks and foods are great. Stop there if you are passing by.
July 10 · John BilottoUnlike a lot of gas station bathrooms, this one is always clean. They have cheese, ice cream, and chili from the Dairy as well. So...if you are just gasing up, this is a fine place to get some cheese from Dairy, but don't skip the Cowfe if you have a minute, if you have an hour, have dinner at the Farmhouse, if you have even more time, check out the adventures and see where your food comes from.
February 20 · Kevin WernerCute and clean store with pleasant employees. We got two waffle cones with butter pecan ice cream. The scoop was a decent size for $5-ish and tasted amazing. The outdoor seating was a plus with it being a nice day.
