I don’t doubt that at least one person reading this will be zipping down Interstate 80. In fact I hope it’s you that’s reading this. The navigator charged with the task of finding “someplace good”.You’ve made it across Nebraska or Illinois and you think your making great time. Every refueling has been efficient, no unnecessary stops, traveling at a speed you think gets you the furthest and fastest without drawing the attention of the State Patrol. But this is Iowa, it’s a little different, so if you can allow yourself half an hour to stretch your legs and see what life is like in this Prairie Sea. Do it.Don’t pass the next semi, flip on the turn signal, move over to the right lane and coast onto the off ramp. There’s a red barstool or a 4 top booth waiting. For you travelers I hope it’s a day in July, hot as an oven with bluebird skies and fair weather clouds stretched out as far as you can see. But even if you have to turn up your collar and hustle inside it will be a memory you’ll recall longer than a big gulp.If you can’t find find or make the time I suggest finding the next Casey’s. It will suffice.
