Grannie Annie's Ice Cream Cafe offers a specialized selection of services and products, distinguishing itself with a strong focus on inclusive dietary options.
- Extensive Non-Dairy Ice Cream Selection: This is a primary highlight, with customers enthusiastically noting a "MILLION non-dairy ice cream flavors." This vast selection caters specifically to individuals with dairy allergies, lactose intolerance, or those following a vegan lifestyle, providing an unparalleled range of choices that are often difficult to find elsewhere.
- Vegan Baked Goods and Desserts: Beyond ice cream, Grannie Annie's also provides "vegan cookies/brownies/desserts too." This expands their appeal to a broader audience seeking plant-based treats, offering complete dessert options for those with specific dietary needs.
- Specialty Flavors: While general flavors aren't listed, a customer specifically enjoyed a "coffee choc chip ice cream," suggesting a range of appealing and well-executed flavors, even within their extensive non-dairy offerings.
- Window Service Only: It's important for potential visitors to note that this establishment operates as "window service only." This means customers order from outside, and there is no indoor seating or Browse area.
- No Sampling Policy: According to one review, samples of flavors are not offered ("the guy said no"). This is a policy patrons should be aware of when visiting, as it requires making a selection without a prior taste.
Grannie Annie's Ice Cream Cafe possesses several distinctive features and highlights that set it apart, particularly for those with specific dietary considerations, while also presenting some operational characteristics for customers to note.
- Unrivaled Non-Dairy and Vegan Selection: This is by far the most prominent highlight. The cafe is celebrated for its "MILLION non-dairy ice cream flavors," offering an exceptionally wide array of choices for individuals who avoid dairy. This commitment extends to other dessert items, including "vegan cookies/brownies/desserts," making it a premier destination for plant-based treats on LBI. This extensive selection is a significant draw for a growing demographic of customers.
- High-Quality Vegan Desserts: Customers have specifically praised the taste and quality of the vegan options, with the "coffee choc chip ice cream" being described as "great," and the "choc chip cookie" and "brownies" noted as "really yummy." This indicates that the focus on quantity of non-dairy options does not compromise on flavor or quality.
- Appreciative Customer Base: The gratitude expressed by a customer for having found such a place ("Really thankful to have found this place when I was visiting LBI. Thank you Annie for all of these options!") underscores the value and relief Grannie Annie's provides to those with specific dietary needs who often struggle to find diverse and delicious options.
- Friendly Owners (Annie and Stanley): The owners, Annie and her husband Stanley, are described as "quite lovely." This personal touch can significantly enhance the customer experience, creating a welcoming and pleasant atmosphere that encourages repeat visits.
- Window Service Operations: It operates exclusively as "window service only." This is a key operational feature, meaning there is no indoor access for Browse or seating. Customers order and receive their items directly from an exterior window.
- No Sampling Policy: A notable policy mentioned in reviews is that the shop does not offer samples of flavors. This means customers must make their choices without tasting beforehand, which is an important point for new visitors to consider.
- Customer Service Variability: While the owners are noted as lovely, there was a review mentioning a less welcoming staff member and a condescending response regarding stale ingredients. This suggests potential variability in staff interaction, which is something to be aware of, though it may not reflect the overall experience.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Love that they have a MILLION non dairy ice cream flavors. Love having such a large selection to choose from. In addition, they have vegan cookies/brownies/desserts too. Really thankful to have found this place when I was visiting LBI. Annie and her husband Stanley are quite lovely. Thank you Annie for all of these options! I had the coffee choc chip ice cream and it was great. The choc chip cookie was really yummy as well as the brownies.
July 14 · Layla DarianStaff was not welcoming, this place is window service only, so you can’t go inside and see any of the ice cream before ordering. You can’t sample any flavor the guy said no. The oreos were stale and when i told the employee he said “the oreos are stale? Okay ill tell the owners” in a very condescending way. Very disappointed.
July 16 · Will K.Just walked up to get a milkshake and a cone… 22 DOLLARS, unreal, I had to have the employee repeat the order to me because I couldn’t believe it, good employees, other wise this place is junk. this is why Big Dipper always has a packed line, this place is just everyone’s last resort. My milkshake was horrible and didn’t taste like chocolate at all, it just tasted like whole milk with watery chocolate.
May 25 · Abtr -Great little place with vegan and gluten-free options. The vegan chocolate peanut butter ice cream was yummy. They are in pre made cups. The owners are very nice. The woman told us she makes all the ice cream and baked goods. She said she started making gluten-free for her son. It's nice to have options on the island! There is a cute mini golf right next door for family fun!
June 13 · GiGibeeIce cream and frozen yogurt were yummy. Chocolate chip cookie was fresh and good. Milkshake and smoothie were very runny. The counter person was very friendly. Huge line was dealt with swiftly.
