Greetings, Maryland residents! As locals, we understand the charm and unique appeal of our beautiful state, especially when it comes to finding those special places that truly embody the spirit of our communities. Today, we're thrilled to introduce you to (or remind you of!) a gem nestled in the heart of Garrett County: Lakeside Creamery. This isn't just an ice cream shop; it's a beloved institution, a familial tradition for many, and a must-visit destination that perfectly blends delicious treats with breathtaking views. This article is tailored for you, our Maryland locals, to provide a clear, engaging, and informative overview of what makes Lakeside Creamery a truly exceptional spot in our wonderful state.
Lakeside Creamery, founded in June of 1995 by entrepreneur Bill Meagher, has quickly become a cornerstone of the Deep Creek Lake experience. For over 30 years, it has delighted visitors with its delicious homemade ice cream and sherbets, proudly served on the scenic shores of Deep Creek Lake. What began as a small lakeside shop has blossomed into a local institution, consistently rated as a top attraction in the Deep Creek Lake area. The creamery's commitment to quality is evident in its ingredients, using cream from local dairy farms, fresh fruit, and high-quality nuts and cookies to create its "like no udder" taste. With over 90 unique flavors, there's always something new to try or a beloved classic to revisit. Beyond the ice cream, Lakeside Creamery is deeply embedded in the Garrett County family of businesses, employing local young adults and supporting community charities and development. It’s a place where the joy of ice cream meets community spirit, making it a truly special part of Maryland's landscape.
The location of Lakeside Creamery is a significant part of its charm and appeal for Maryland locals and visitors alike. Situated at 20282 Garrett Hwy, Oakland, MD 21550, USA, the creamery boasts an enviable position right on the shores of Deep Creek Lake. Garrett Highway (Route 219) is the primary thoroughfare running through the Deep Creek Lake area, making it incredibly easy to find whether you're coming from Oakland, McHenry, or other parts of Garrett County. One of its most distinctive features is the ability to "dock straight there" if you're enjoying a day out on the lake, offering unparalleled accessibility for boaters. For those arriving by car, there is typically ample parking available, though it can get bustling during peak summer days given its popularity. The direct lakefront access not only provides convenience but also offers "fun" and stunning views, making the act of enjoying your ice cream an experience in itself. Its proximity to other local attractions, including Deep Creek Kettle Corn (where you can watch popcorn being made!), further enhances its appeal as a central point for leisure and enjoyment in the Deep Creek Lake region.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Top 3 things to do in Deep Creek. I came here every day for a week this year as it’s a familial tradition for us. Michael served us every time and he was super friendly and helpful. The staff here are amazing the ice cream next level and the view is fun as well and you can also dock straight there. Deep creek kettle corn is next to it and you can ask them to make some so you can watch and it’s really cool to see. My favorite flavor is Mint Cookie.

July 16 · Christia Ds.Best ice cream around deep creek! Stopped by multiple times throughout a week. Sometimes the line is out the door but the staff do a good job cycling customers through. Fun to stop by while boating! They also have ice cream in containers for you to take home. Lots of flavors.
July 18 · Erik LevinVery friendly staff! They were training someone today and were still very efficient. Plenty of flavor and topping options for everyone, and not too expensive. The fruit smoothies are also delicious. Some indoor seating, plenty outside where you can look over the lake. We also noticed a dock and stairs so you could get here by boat!
June 18 · Beth ShearerI went there 2x on my weekend trip. Long lines at night but they move fairly quickly. I have to say they have the best cookies and cream ice-cream I have ever had. I got the cookie monster sundae. I definitely will be going back next time im in deep creek.
