Pistol Pete's Introduce
For families and visitors enjoying a stay at the Wilderness Resort in Baraboo, Wisconsin, Pistol Pete's offers a highly convenient and popular option for satisfying a sweet tooth. Located directly within the resort, this ice cream spot is a go-to for guests seeking a refreshing treat without having to leave the premises. While it may not be a traditional standalone storefront, its presence within the Wilderness Resort makes it an integral part of the vacation experience for many. Pistol Pete's proudly serves Cedar Crest® Ice Cream, a well-known Wisconsin brand, and offers a variety of creative, hand-mixed creations. Its appeal lies in this combination of a beloved local product with the convenience of being on-site, making it a perfect spot for a quick dessert between water park visits or a late-night craving.
Pistol Pete's is celebrated for its ability to provide a great ice cream experience in a fast-paced environment. As one customer noted, the convenience of having a spot like this inside the Wilderness Resort is a major plus, and for them, the experience was "totally worth it." The lines, despite the business's popularity, tend to move quickly, which is a significant advantage for families who don't want to spend their precious vacation time waiting. The staff, according to a positive review, is also "super nice," contributing to an overall great experience. The variety of menu items, from classic scoops to creative shakes and sundaes, ensures that everyone in the family can find something they love. This focus on efficiency, convenience, and friendly service is what makes Pistol Pete's a cherished part of the Wilderness Resort experience.
However, as with many businesses located within a resort or tourist destination, the pricing and consistency can be points of discussion. A customer review highlighted the high cost, stating that the ice cream was "overpriced because of the convenience of being on-site" and that for a cup of ice cream and a shake, the total was "right around $20." This reflects the reality of pricing in a resort setting, where the added convenience often comes with a higher price tag. The same review also noted some inconsistency in how different employees prepared the ice cream, with some appearing to create a "Coldstone-like" experience while others simply added toppings on top. While this may be a point of frustration for some, it's a detail that many visitors overlook for the sheer convenience of a quick, sweet treat just steps away from their hotel room or water park entrance. The fact that the ice cream "tastes great" and is made with a high-quality local brand like Cedar Crest® helps to justify the visit for many patrons.

The convenience of not having to leave the resort property is a major draw and a primary reason for its popularity among guests.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The location was hard to find within the building, there is not a lot of room to wait in line without being in the walkway in people's way. The ice cream was way overpriced because of the convenience of being on-site. I watched the different employees make people's ice cream in different ways and different sizes as I waited for my order.I thought, based on what I watched one employee do, that it was kind of like Coldstone where they chop up your topping and mix it in with the ice cream. Then the next order, it was kind of just 2 huge blobs of ice cream with the candy/ingredients barely mixed in and mostly on top, but they got a very large portion. I ordered the same size at that person, but my portion was much smaller. My reese's peanut butter cups were pressed on top of my ice cream with the employees gloved hand and drizzled with peanut butter sauce. It was never taken out of the container or mixed in in any way. It was definitely curious. My wife got a shake which was also average at best. Just a normal chocolate shake, but it was $9. For my cup of ice cream and her shake it was right around $20... for average ice cream! You could make it in your hotel room better than this for WAY cheaper!Overall, it was pretty average ice cream but the ridiculous price turned me off to it. Did not and will not go back.
July 04 · Zach HorejsiSuper convenient to have a great ice cream spot inside the wilderness . They are expensive but it’s totally worth it. Ice cream taste great and the lines move quickly so your not waiting forever . The hours seem to vary depending on the season. Overall great experience and the staff is super nice
May 10 · Jim WhitakerThis place, may objectively be the world’s best ice cream parlor, I ordered, and would recommend you order the banana split. This comes with a full banana, three scoops of ANY flavor you want, multiple toppings, sauces, cherries and whip cream. This was around 11 dollars, great value inside of the wilderness, when you combine the convenience with the experience, mankind may never create a better adventure. My friends and I experienced euphoria. Thank you Pistol Pete.
August 19 · Nicholas SchwartzGreat ice cream for good value.
July 06 · Joe RandellThe ice cream was pretty mediocre but the kids didn't know any better and they enjoyed having some ice cream to end the day.
