Scoops Ice Cream Parlour Introduce
In the landscape of local businesses in Roselle, Illinois, one establishment that once held a special place in the community's heart was Scoops Ice Cream Parlour. The cozy, privately operated shop was known for its inviting atmosphere and friendly employees, serving as a charming spot for residents to get a sweet treat. Though the business is now permanently closed, with all equipment and furniture having been removed, it is worth looking back at the role it played in the neighborhood and why it was a memorable place for those who visited. The closure, as suggested by community comments, was a result of various factors, including a reported increase in rent that impacted its profitability.
Scoops Ice Cream Parlour was described by patrons as a "nice" and "cute, clean" place, offering a positive environment for families and individuals. The staff was a key part of this experience, with one reviewer noting that the employees were "nice." This is a significant factor for any local business, as a welcoming and pleasant service can be just as important as the product itself. The parlor offered a different kind of experience than larger, fast-food chains, providing a more personal touch that is often valued in a small community. For a time, it was a place where people could enjoy a moment of peace and a simple, classic dessert.
However, the provided customer feedback also sheds light on the challenges faced by small, independent businesses. One comment pointed to the high price of a single scoop, suggesting that at $4.29, it was too expensive when compared to a nearby competitor like Culver's. This perspective, while not the sole reason for its closure, illustrates the competitive pressures and price sensitivity that local shops often face. The comment about the "owner raises the rent" and the subsequent emptiness of the space also offers a glimpse into the economic realities that can lead to a business closing its doors. This is a common story for many small, privately operated places, and it highlights the importance of community support, not just for the products, but for the business's very existence.
Scoops Ice Cream Parlour was located at 1230 W Lake St in Roselle, IL. This address placed it in a convenient spot for local residents. Its position on a main street likely made it easily accessible by car, and its proximity to other businesses or residential areas would have made it a natural choice for an evening outing or a spontaneous treat. The convenience of the location would have been a significant factor in its ability to serve the community and become a regular stop for many.
While the shop is no longer there, its former location remains a part of the Roselle commercial landscape. Its past presence serves as a reminder of the value of supporting local, independently owned businesses, and the challenges they face in maintaining profitability in a competitive market. The accessibility of the location was one of the parlor's strengths, allowing it to integrate into the daily lives of those in the Roselle area.
Based on the information available and the nature of an ice cream parlour, the services offered would have included:
- Hand-Scooped Ice Cream: The primary service was likely a selection of various ice cream flavors sold by the scoop.
- Cones and Cups: Customers would have had the option of getting their ice cream in a cone or a cup.
- Other Frozen Treats: Typical ice cream parlours often offer sundaes, milkshakes, and floats, so it's likely Scoops had similar options.
- Private Ownership: As a privately operated place, the services would have reflected the owner's personal touch and vision for the business.
The highlights and features of Scoops Ice Cream Parlour that made it a part of the community were:
- Privately Operated: This feature set it apart from larger chains, giving it a unique character and a personal feel.
- Friendly and Clean Environment: Customers appreciated the clean and pleasant atmosphere, as well as the nice employees.
- Community Connection: As a local business, it served as a comfortable spot for residents to gather and enjoy a treat.
- Nostalgic Appeal: The nature of an ice cream parlour often evokes a sense of nostalgia, making it an attractive destination for families.
Although the shop is no longer open, its information remains in public records.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1It was a nice privately operated place. I don't think people should run their mouth about the situation, Mrs Smith, when you have no clue on what happened! Owner raises the rent and the place has been empty for the season. How profitable is that, property owner?!!!
October 13 · Alan MerkelThis place is permanently closed. All equipment and furniture is removed.I’m going to say something here that’s not going to make a difference, but I think it’s important. The place was cute, clean, and the employees were nice. But paying $4.29 for a single scoop is just too high when Culver’s is down the road. I don’t know why they left, but this is why my family only came once.
September 02 · Mrs. SmithI don’t leave reviews often, but I felt that scoops really deserved one. They have both dairy free, and NSA options for ice cream, and are extremely kind and accommodating. The woman serving us today was so helpful and sweet, and we’ve literally been twice this week already lol. I’m honestly surprised it wasn’t super busy with how good everything is!I 10/10 recommend and will definitely be back☺️
July 01 · Abby RGood ice cream. Friendly staff!
June 01 · Jakub BoruchCreamy ice cream in a variety of fun and unique flavors for kids (play doh flavor) and adults (whiskey, coffee flavors). No sugar added options available too. I had the puppy chow which was peanut better ice cream with puppy chow pieces. Delicious!
